I'm about 70 pages into the book and keep coming to an expression in the characters dialogues that I'm having a rough time translating.

"I swan."

As close as I can figure it would translate as "I swear."

Does this sound right to those of you who have read the book already?

Amy (amybf) | 144 comments I think it's equivalent to "I do declare" or thereabouts. Which is basically the same as "I swear," only with a more genteel slant to it. ;)

It's the title of a book by Robert Graves about a waterfowl who becomes Emperor of Rome.

Something we do, down here in central Ohio. The trend should hit northeast Ohio within a few years.
