Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments For the benifit of anyone wondering what I'm talking about with potato slugs...

If you want to know, read this old post of mine: http://ziglernews.blogspot.co.uk/2008...

Ever since then, whenever I've said I thought there was a slug anywhere, hubby's teased me asking if I'm sure it's a real slug and not a potato slug or something.

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments Oh gosh Jenny. I really can't deal with wasps/hornets/bees.

When I was 4 I stepped on a ground hornets nest. Almost 200 stings later and I'm terrified of them for some possibly obvious reason.

I actually love spiders unless the bite. Jumping spiders are awesome. I'd have them as pets but they are kind of expensive up front for a spider and my cat would eat them, which would make buying a fancy spider kind of a waste.

Uh, yea.... NO! No spiders, jumping or biting or even cute ones. ;) Although... I did have a pet tarantuala once. After Harry escaped from his terranium for the 3rd time (he never went anywhere, just sprawled out on the "outside" of his glass home) I decided that maybe he needed to be out in the desert instead. So my son, who was about 13, and I took him and set him free in a nice desert!

I'd rather see a big giant tarantuala (they're actually beautiful!) than the little biting spiders. We have poisonous black widows here. Ugh!!

Marla | 366 comments I am waiting for the ants to invade my family room. Every year for the past 3 years, we have to leave bait for them and they go away and every year they are back. Sigh.

Yeah, good reason for not liking them!

You can keep your spiders though... I don't like them! I don't care how cute you think they are, to me they're just creepy crawly things!

message 307: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments Good thing spiders don't like the harsh climate in Canada! Never get big ones here.

Wasps, though...

message 308: by [deleted user] (new)

I dont see spiders so much either.
but like in canada, thers lots of wasps here in norway.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments Um yah, when I was little my sisters and I opened up a cable box & out came a BUNCH of wasps & I got stung too many times to count. To this day I am absolutely terrified (hyperventilating terrified) of bees and wasps! I also hate spiders, snakes, grasshoppers, centipedes, and frogs. I see a bee or a wasp I go running screaming!

Oh oh, don't come into my little back yard then, Rose! It's full of bees doing bee things with my flowering shrubs. We sit and watch them and they never bother us!

message 312: by [deleted user] (new)

@ allison expensive books are the worst.you can comfort youself with this, its wayy more expensive here in norway.
normal price for a new book is 16 am dollars, a bargin price might be 13 am dollars.

Karen & rose, I actually don mind spiders, I hate all kinds of buggs.

Hahahah, Joanne, I've been hearing "Come on summer" from everyone else, so it's funny to see "Come on winter". ;) I also want winter because now we go into our 100+ F days until end September.

We got record snow falls this year, as did a lot of the US and though I like snow, I was DONE :D My daughter had 100+ inches in college, so I couldn't complain to her because she got even more than we did.

We got none, and I wasn't too happy about it. Kept asking friends to share the snow. Most of them said they would if they could. One of my friends went one step further and sent me a bag of fake snow though, LOL!

I should probably be grateful for the 80 and 90 degrees then, lol. I would've thought that after this winter it would actually be a cooler summer....

message 319: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) I don't know how many of you have heard about the UCSB shooting this weekend, but I just found out one of my classmates from high school was one of the victims. It's so upsetting that one guy's frustration and misogyny could lead to the deaths of truly kind and wonderful people.

message 320: by Jenny, Always smiling! :-D (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 12932 comments Mod
Oh, no Kritika, I am so sorry to hear that! :( I agree completely, its so tragic and sad.

message 321: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments :( Oh gosh. I haven't been able to read a lot about it because people are jerks.... but it makes me sick that several social workers, his parents and other people tried to get him put in a locked mental facility to get him help but the police ignored it. Now it is too late, and there are multiple people dead because of one guy.

I am so sorry Kritika.

message 322: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments If there is anything we can do... let us know.

It is so upsetting.

message 323: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) Thanks Jenny and Kaylani! Right now I'm just numb - tragedies like this always hurt, but I never imagined that it would be people I knew.

message 324: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments I think the hardest part about it being people you know is the stupid things people say.

If it is someone you don't know, you can still be really upset at peoples stupidity but when it is someone you knew.. its like how dare you say that stuff about someone you never knew.

If you need to talk/vent/etc I am here.

message 325: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments So sad... There are no words...

message 326: by Marla (new)

Marla | 366 comments I'm sorry Kritika. It really brings your mortality home when someone your age dies. And we always think of these tragedies as happening to someone else.

My daughter gets frustrated because last November tornadoes hit our little town and 500 houses were destroyed and 500 more were damaged. We were fine, both our house and business, but only 15,000 people live in town, so a large percentage were affected. My in-laws were fine, but my brother-in-law lost his house, but he wasn't hurt (though he passed away last month). My daughter goes to school in the city across the river and they cannot comprehend the devastation and just want the news and fundraisers to go away. And it happened 20 minutes away from them!

message 328: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenwesner) | 1222 comments Jenny - I heard recently that if you put a stuffed brown paper bag (or a wadded up one) in the area where the wasps are, they'll leave. Apparently they're territorial.

Emma is full of trivia. She's always saying "did you know that . . . " She should be on Jeopardy.

In unrelated other rantish-type news, can I just say right here that when I see a review on Goodreads that is replete with GIF's and photos and flashing things and "oh my dream cast" CRAP it makes me want to scream!

Really? Really a review can't just be a review with WORDS?

OK, I admit I'm cranky and tired because I'm fighting with an uneven floor and laminate flooring that won't cooperate. But seriously - is this Tumblr or Goodreads? These people need to use their words or go back to Tumblr where they can do that at will.

Sorry. But not really. Rant over.

LOL I agree completely, Jen! I don't mind one pic or GIF, but multiple ones drive me crazy!!

Sorry about your floor :(

Wasp hanging around my front door is dead now. Nest was knocked down and stomped on by hubby. I haven't seen a wasp in a few days (thank God!) But thanks for the tip :)

And I'm sorry about your floor.

Speaking of bugs...funny story that happened at work!

On Saturday, I was serving the residents lunch in the dining room, and there was a fly buzzing around one table in particular. The residents asked me to grab a fly swatter. I was actually a little annoyed, and I was juggling plates of hot food, but I set the food down and did as they asked. I came in the dining room wielding said fly swatter, and with one good WHACK killed that fly dead. THEN all the residents started applauding me and cheering. Mac said, "What a crack shot she is!" LOL
THEN, I got 2 more flies over the course of lunch. I was 3 for 3 on the swats. I was their hero. LOL Good to know I'm good for something!

It's a really good series; the only thing is I've read the first 4 books in 4 days, so it's been hard to adjust to Percy getting older every book. In the last book I think Percy is about my age, so I have to re-imagine him again.

message 343: by Harlee (new)

Harlee | 1583 comments Wow, I'm impressed with how fast you're getting through them! That would be funny, trying to readjust his age every day haha. I tried rereading the first book last week but I couldn't get the movie out of my head and I just couldn't get into it! Hopefully I can reread the series and HoO before October when Blood of Olympus comes out! *happy dance while sobbing*

I'll read the HoO series during the summer after exams. Super excited for the Last Olympian though.
