Looks like I'm late to the old vs. new book discussion too. I tend to buy books new, but as long as I can flip through the book before purchasing it, I don't mind buying a used book. I just need/want to be able to make sure I'm not going to be assaulted by a rainbow of highlighted lines, coffee stains, and comments scribbled in the margins that consist of profanity. All those are fine in small doses, but spanning over the entire book, not so much.

I have found the most amazing things in used books. 80 year old letters. Pictures, money.... hand written amazing poetry... folded pieces of stories someone was writing.
I love getting new books, but somehow old books feel better. Like I am rescuing them and saving them. New books don't need saving. The old ones are just waiting for me to rescue them and bring them home and to love them until they fall apart :)

I don't care if my books are new or old, as long as they're in a format I can use. I've had plenty of used audiobooks in the past that have been fine to listen to, and enjoyable too.
Hi there, I'm new to the discussion. I borrow 85% of my books from the library, get 13% on my Nook and 2% I buy used, but in great condition. My dad found a $50 bill once in a library book!
Marla wrote: "Moral of that story, don't use a brand new crisp $50 bill as a book mark in a library book!"Quite!
Unless, of course, you're feeling very generous and want to hand out money to the next reader, in which case you can feel free to do so! ;)
Victoria wrote: "Unless, of course, you're feeling very generous and want to hand out money to the next reader, in which case you can feel free to do so! ;) "Okay, some holiday, I'm going to go to the library with a handful of crisp dollar bills and plant them in books in different genres.
LOL okay, I'll keep you posted when I actually do it. Maybe I should make them Where's George dollars and we could start a trend.
Happy Mother's Day to some of my favourite people - Karen and Jenny, and all the other great Moms out there. Hope your day is fabulous!
Same to you, Jen! And Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible moms out there!! This is your day so enjoy!! :)
Happy Mothers' Day to all the Mothers in Canada, America, and anywhere else that has Mothers' Day today!
Hope everyone had a Happy Mother's Day. I was so busy enjoying my family yesterday, that I wasn't on. :D
Ok, so I was wrong about Harry Potter.Maybe I'm wrong about Percy Jackson.
So I've decided to take out the entire Percy Jackson series and the 4 books of the Heroes of Olympus series over the summer and read it all. Hopefully I'll like it.

You don't know until you try... Hope you do enjoy it though. I haven't read the series yet, but I have it waiting to be read, and hope to read it soon.

I've always been told to pick up Percy Jackson; however, I'm always lured by something else. You'll have to let me know how they are!

I adored the Percy Jackson books. I hope you like them too!
Just make sure that you read PJO before HoO. Some people read them together, and get spoiled for the PJO books.
Oh god today I'm traveling by bus from Texas to Minnesota but I have with me The people of sparks by Jeanne Duprau number two from Book of Ember Saga

Harry, Percy and John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice, Will, are some of my favorite characters/series!
Oh, I like James Patterson's Maximum Ride too, but Max is a girl. (Granted a tough girl who can fight and fly...) And Suzanne Collins's Gregor is another one of my favorites.

Oda, that's my biggest worry. But I enjoyed Harry Potter in January although the characters and writing in the early books were childish. And I've been told the writing and the characters grow as the PJ series goes on, so I'm hopeful.

I'll make sure to do that.
Jesse wrote: "Oh god today I'm traveling by bus from Texas to Minnesota but I have with me The people of sparks by Jeanne Duprau number two from Book of Ember Saga"A book can make a journey go so much faster, and make a rough one easier to deal with; enjoy!
My day was looooong and not really that great. Although I got to share the kitchen tonight with my boss, Chris, whom I haven't cooked with in months! We went to high school together, so we always have fun :) So that ended my day well!
I got into with a co-worker, and several of the residents today drove me CRAZY...they are looney tunes sometimes!

Jesse: Glad to hear it!Jenny: Sorry to hear that. Glad it wasn't a totally bad day though and that something nice happened!
I had to share this, this is some of the coverage of the tornadoes that came through the other night. Apparantly, people were freaked out that they interrupted a show for tornado coverage and warnings. LOVE what this anchor said!

screeeech. :(I found the charging cord and the wall block that I *know* for sure work with my nook. If he doesn't charge after a good 12 hours on the charger because I know he has NO battery life left... I will have to mark him as dead :(
He was my first ereader. I AM SORRY NOOKINGTON. Please live... please.

I hope you can bring Nookington back to life!
I had to share this, is a time lapse video of a dad filming his daughter every week from the time she was a baby to age 12. Very very cool!

Had mini battles today: one with a spider, one with a wasp. Both were hanging out around my front door. THEY MUST DIE!!! I finally figured out that the wasp was building a nest in our doorway. I sprayed the heck out it and the nest, so hopefully all is dead now! *shudders* Creepy crawly things, leave me alone!
LOL I'm not nice about it AT ALL!!! And so tired of wasps, I had some in my new studio, that took a few days to get rid of them all. Now they are hanging around my front door! UGH
Daniel, Jenny has this weird phobia about bugs! Especially when she's reading about them. She tends to go on long rants about them. The Gone series by Michael Grant had a particularly gruesome book with "bugs". Jenny was HILARIOUS during that buddy read!
Oh, I wish I was there!I don't have a problem with mutated bugs in books, but real bugs give me the heebie-jeebies.
