There is a dinner party near the end of the book, and the main character is uncomfortable with her mother's role as the cook in the rich family's house. The mom has to wear a maid's uniform. The protagonist and Andrea (the daughter in the family) sort of become friends, although Andrea's wealth is a world apart from what the MC is used to. Andrea offers to give the MC the carousel horse at the end of the book. The plot happens over the course of the summer.
