Nalu.chan Ok, I confess, I was weak and read the spoilers from others reviews... And now I'm afraid of reading this book after finding out what happens next... I was so disappointed by Requiem's ending that I'm really considering not reading this book. What do you think? Should I give it a shot? Have you ever been afraid to read the ending of a series so it won't ruin it?

Matthew If you are absolutely dying from the Insurgent cliffhanger, read it. If not, don't read it.

Kristen I sort of wish I hadn't read it. Knowing just how much it ruined the series, I wish I'd just have imagined the ending myself, because I think it'd would have been alot better. Definitely would have made more sense.

I also hated the ending of Requiem.

Read it if you must, but be aware going in that Roth did an awful job of planning ahead and forming a coherent plot.
The problem is not just in the ending (the way I feel it primarily was in Requiem) or in the one event that most people hate about the ending. The problem is that she didn't have a clue about what to do with the series after the cliff hanger in Insurgent. She didn't have a clue about why divergence was such a huge deal or what to do with all the drama she created thus far.
The story takes on an entirely different feel in the third book. It's almost as if it was a poorly written internet fan fiction by an entirely different author.

So yeah, I'd definitely recommend skipping it if it's not going to bug the crap out of you to do so.

Breanna Joy I wish she'd done a better job of making it feel real. Everything seemed really disconnected. Youre exactly right, especially in saying it felt like a fan fic.

For me, it felt like reading an early draft.

Lucy Roy I couldn't even finish, which is incredibly rare for me. I got about halfway through and just couldn't deal with the nothing that was happening. Finally I just Googled the ending and didn't really see a need to finish.

I was also disappointed with Requiem's ending. It just kind of stopped short. I was definitely expecting at least a few more pages.

camille 🤍 Oh Allegiant. I was pretty disappointing to be honest, and not because of just the ending. It didn't live up to Divergent or Insurgent. They were so full of action and suspense, but Allegiant was… boring :( I found myself not really enjoying it. My friend had accidentally told me the big spoiler in it too, so it took me a while to get around to reading it. (After buying it, I put it on my bedroom floor for two weeks before actually picking it up). It won't kill you to read it, especially if it's going to annoy you (I know it would annoy the crap out of me).

Me too. Exactly how I felt. I am excited for the movie however.

My firend told me the spoiler too. I was not a happy Jan.

Tina J I was unhappy about the ending of Requiem also.
But still thought Allegiants ending was good, despite the fact that it should have happened for a better cause.

chinami read it.

I'm so excited for it too!!! I'm going in with low expectations and I'm still not sure how I feel about the cast, but I'll see! I'm sure I like them a lot more after the movie :)

Jennifer Coburn If I were you I would read it even though you know how it ends. If you dont read it you cant form your own opinion of it. Sort of like not voting. By choosing not to vote you are letting others choose for you. Read it, and so what if you hate it. I did not like how it ended but I understand why the author did what she did.

Heh, not quite getting the "not voting" analogy. Whether you read the book or not will have no bearing whatsoever on what the book already says.

The way I see it, there are two basic reactions to Allegiant: You'll either be okay with it, or you will wish you never read it because it destroys your view of the series. The question is ... is that a risk you want to take? How much do you love the series that you want to risk being made to regret ever reading it? I think that's the basic Allegiant problem.

Melissa Jones Meh, I read the spoilers as well, and I wasn't near as disappointed as I thought I would be. I didn't enjoy the book, mostly just for the way it was written with the points of view changing every chapter, but wasn't as horrible as others made it out to be.

Emily You should read it. While some people have negative opinions, other people really loved it, so it's hard to say where you'll fall. I enjoyed all three books very much. Interestingly, I have a friend who thought the first books were okay, but really loved Allegiant, which is kind of the opposite from what a lot of people feel, so it just goes to show that people all react differently to books, particularly to the ending of a series.

Having also read Requiem, personally, I think Allegiant was much better and I wouldn't compare the two.

I think you have reason..

Maya I think it was a lot less well written then the first, amazing two books. If you're like me and like to finish things (or if you're like me and spent $20 on the book the day it came out) then you should read it. But it was a big disappointment.

I think, if you're not really good at dealing with SUPER sad endings, don't read it. If you're okay with it, I don't see a reason why not.
I would recommend you should.

The thing is, I don't mind sad endings - I've read Before I Fall many times and still think the ending was perfect. In that case, I thought it was perfect that Sam died in the end becaus de building of the story was well done. So it wasn't such a shock, you know?

My reservations about the Allegiance ending is because many people are saying that it was so different from the first 2 books. They say the story plot was stout and that Tris death was unnecessary.

Actually my fear of reading the third book comes from the fact that it might ruin the whole trilogy for me.

Kristin I wish I just read Divergent! I was so much better than the other books, and I thought the ending was awful. I cried a lot

Melissa I wish I could unread it. The dual points of view blurred the lines between the personalities of Tris and Tobias. Sometimes, I didn't even know whose point of view I was reading. I actually didn't mind Tris's death, but the rest of it felt forced and didn't provide a believable ending to the trilogy.
