Character contest

Similar to the contest recently held by Zombieslayer (thanks for the idea Z). In this contest everyone will write a short story about a character of their choosing. The stories may be anywhere from 100 to 500 words. You may create any character you want for this contest, however that character is the only character allowed in the story. There may be no other humans, animals, mythical beasts, animated objects, ect. in the story. We develop a lot of our characters through their interactions with others, and it will be interesting to see how you develop a character alone.

(view spoiler)[ I’m doing it again. Brooding. I can’t let go of the circus playing out in my head. All the “what if’s’” all the moments stuck on replay in my mind, all the chaotic thoughts bouncing around like a never ending game of ping pong forcing me to react. O.C.D. How can this Jackson Pollack- Rube Goldberg of a mess be relegated to three little letters. One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three. Take your pills. Trapped, held captive in this labyrinth composed of musings and ether. Cruel captors stronger and less relenting than any man made prison. Stone walls, each stone labeled with redundant thoughts piling one on top of the other so quickly that climbing becomes an exercise in futility. You are forced to sit on the ledge of this wall and watch as your well laid escape plan is thwarted by each continuously growing layer. One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three. Ah, hello my sweet chemical friend. Have you come to keep me company in my prison? One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three. Can we take a nap? One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three. THE ERADICATION PROTOCOL

(view spoiler)[Sixteen years… sixteen years and there has been no one! The pain is immense and I know I’m losing a lot of blood. They said that there was a good reason for the Eradication Protocol… it’s a shame I have to understand it now… in my final hours. Life is cruel in these circumstances – it always comes around and bites you when you least expect it! And why would I have expected it?

The Eradication Protocol attempted to obliterate all of mankind… the machines thought it best… and now I’m lying here dying because I thought I was alone! The world was bare – a stark reality that I had to endure for over sixteen years. Sixteen years of thinking that I was alone in the world! Sixteen years of thinking that my life would simply end when I decided I couldn’t handle the loneliness… and when I find I’m wrong… when I find there’s more… BANG! BANG! Two sharp stabbing pains straight into my gut… I’m going to bleed out… I know this…

For many years, I was the last human alive… I may still be the last human – but I won’t be alive much longer. Sixteen years and I have been right around this country and never found a soul… I cursed those machines with every fibre of my being… I destroyed every machine that I could get my hands on… but many were already destroyed in the Eradication Protocol… a series of bombs that would cease human existence… we were meant to be eradicated… but I survived… only me! And now I knock at death’s door – hoping he will answer soon… The pain writhes through my body, every ounce of self-preservation I have left in me says to fight and see what’s left, but I can feel my body telling me to rest… Should have been more alert, but my fight or flight instinct had left me long ago. There is no need to be alert, when you’re the only one around!

Sixteen years and I have travelled right around this country… not a soul… no one! But here – of all the places in this country – the final insignificant town! I thought my ears were deceiving me… I thought I was hallucinating… I had grown so use to the silence… to my own company. The Eradication Protocol was not successful here… or was it? I slouch against the crumbling wall and watch my blood join with the dust and stone… ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I would have liked to have met them… spoken to them… but, the world is now a haze. I want to tell them my name. I want to tell them I survived… but now I cannot. “Live alone, die alone” – my adopted motto for fifteen years. But they won’t know me, when they come. They won’t know my name. My blood waves me goodbye and sets off down the dusty road… A blurred shadow… it’s them!
