Discuss Chapter 14 only. Please make liberal use of spoiler tags when discussing other books/series-wide implications.

Not a lot to report this chapter. The Khundryl Burned Tears give the Bolkando a hiding, until Warleader Gall makes peace with the Queen of the Bolkando.

It looks like a Barghast clan has defected to the Bolkando – possibly in protest over Tool’s killing? Or maybe just for money.

It looks like Gall and his Wife’s life have been defined by the loss of a son fifteen years ago. Vedith, the young commander Gall sent out and who died in the attack was their son’s playmate. He hadn’t remembered because that detail got buried with all his other memories of his son.

‘He used to play with our Kyth Anar.’
‘Yes,’ Gall said suddenly, eyes bright as he looked upon her. ‘That is right. How could I have forgotten?’
‘Because that was fifteen years ago, husband. Because Kyth did not live past his seventh birthday. Because we agreed to bury our memories of him, our wondrous first son.’

And according to the Queen of the Bolkando, there is something really bad in Kolanse where the Bonehunters are heading

‘Beyond the Wastelands you will find the dozen or so kingdoms of Kolanse. Warleader, I imagine you will not heed my advice, but I will give it anyway. You will find nothing of worth there. You will, in fact, find something terrible beyond imagining.’

Well, we have been given a rough idea already – the heart of the CG is there – with the FA sitting right on top of it. How bad could that be?

Silvio Curtis | 403 comments Yelk's Barghast were specifically called mercenaries. The ranks were uneven, with some of the mercenaries sitting, helms doffed and shields down.

Seems like Bolkando wasn't much of a problem for anyone.

And he walked, silent, smiling, so generous of regard, so seemingly at peace, so content to share the rewards of her indulgence

Ohh bit of festering going on there.

Hethry, her third daughter, stepped forward and said, 'It is your life that matters, Mother—'
'Oh, eat my shit. If you could pull off the perfect disguise of a Khundryl to get a knife in my back, there'd be four of 'em riding up to our parley, not three. Go play with your brother, and tell me nothing about what you get up to with him. I'd like to keep my food down for a change.'

Ah motherly love. These Bolkando are a fun lot, no?

You always know with a character like this that they get their just deserts. Either that or they go on yo become dictators.

So Gall's wife is pregnant with someone else's child. She's constantly refered to as "wife" until the last page where it names her as Hanavat. Have we met her before? Am I simply confusing her with someone else?

Yes! And I'm going to laugh and laugh. :p Well, smile, anyway.

@ Rob, I don't think we have. We met the Khyundral when they were chasing Coltaine across the Seven Cities, but I don't think we met Hanavar.

Sumant I am only hoping here that SE will stop his philosophical meanderings because they are getting kind of repeated for every character and move on with the story.

Duffy Pratt | 354 comments There were two other interesting developments here. First, there's going to be a summit between the Adjunct and the Queen of the Bolkando. Since the Queen seems both formidable and sensible, that's promising. Second, and more important, the Adjunct's forces have gotten yet another escort across the Wastelands: the Queens elite fighting unit. That means that Brys and his elites are joining with this new group of elites. The intention is only to get through the Wasteland, but I doubt that's how things will end up with them.

You are quite right Duffy. The meeting of three very head strong women and quite the army being formed for the march.
