Why is this book so great?

Erm... I'm not sure. That is a great quesion. I loved those books, although some of the language was not what I would like it to be. Maybe because after The Hunger Games lots of people were obsessed with bows and arrows. Perhaps it is just the cliffhanging storyline, or maybe the likeable/referrable characters. :D

I think so too. But I think the main reason I liked the books was not cause I'd read the hunger games, bu t because of Alyss, Cassandra(Evanlyn) and Madelyn- I love Female Heroines.

I think part of it has to do with the fact that Will went from being an orphan faced with a life of working on a farm to an apprentice to a national legend. Also there's lots of clever and witty writing that are popular in today's writing. The writer originally wrote this for his son who was smaller than his friends at the time, so it has a large underdog factor to it which we can never seem to stop loving.
