on the stage

your fingers crossed bohemian high
in the gods it's my turn as chief
cook & bottle-washer to show
should the meter be running low
the beggar man's line from the thief
say what is meant by live ask why
directors have to play Godot

as if the fish on coral reef
could tell a bubble from a sigh

to know the seagull's falling cry
will raise the roof to crowd relief
take off his beard and baldly go
on barking up trees of another leaf
but keep your fingers crossed when actors die

Why does that move me? Hmmm.

The poem's sentiment seems to be between anger and frustration. Perfect for Frost's admonition of "grief, not grievances".
