Hello All,

I will start out by saying that I hadn't read this work of Verne's before and I really enjoyed it. In a former life, I was a biologist and so the scientific aspect of the book interested me. I have to say that I haven't read anything so pro-science in a very long time. The overall tone was so enthusiastic! Does anyone have any thoughts on the author's attitude towards scientific discovery? Perhaps related to that point in history (1864) compared to modern views? Feel free to change the subject...

Katherine | 36 comments I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I'd hoped. I liked the excitement the characters had for science and discovery, but I was frustrated by the character of the narrator. He has wild mood swings and at times seems to be hysterical. I felt like this took away from the storyline.
