I was just curious if anyone has set a reading goal for the new year? This is my first year setting a goal so I started kinda low at 25 books. What are your goals?

My goal is to read 125 books this year and to read mostly from books I already own or that have been on my TBR list for awhile.
My goal is 120 books. I like to read award nominees and listen to audiobooks to help me reach the goal.
If it makes you feel better I set my goal at 35. I might read more, but this is also my first year setting a goal and college keeps me rather busy. I wish I could shoot for over 100!
I did 75 last year, and completed it. I'm starting at 40 this year, and gradually add to it. I'm more busy than I was last year, so I don't want to over do it.
I'm at 150. I did 250 last year. I want to give time for re-reads because I read a lot of awesome books last year :)
I'm going for 100 this year. I did 100 last year too and accomplished it, but towards the end i crammed in a lot of smallish children's books. So I'm going to try not to do that this time.
I haven't set my goal yet but I think I'm going to do 100. I would like to cut my reading in half from last year in order to focus on other things in life, but I still want to keep reading regularly for fun.
I am going for 100 like last year although I am not sure if I will be able to achieve it. I am sorry to say that last year I couldnt do it only 83 books, but I am hoping this year things will be different :D
I did about 47 last year so I am going to try for 60 this year. I actually have 6 already read but that is because I was off on winter break and just hibernated and read until the 6 th. That will give me an average of 4 a month with more over the summer and over spring break.
My goal is 104 (avg of 2 a wk). Most of those will be audiobooks, so I "read" while I'm cooking, cleaning and driving. A couple of years ago, when I was in college, 5 in a year would have been a challenge.
I did 100 for the last two years. Was just shy of making it last year; completed in 2012. I'm going way lower for this year and setting my goal at 52, one per week. I'm a new mom, so I now have significantly less reading time. I do a lot of audiobooks, though, so I should make 52.
I just had a baby three weeks ago, so I had initially set my goal to 100 books. I'm thinking I might change it to 50, though. That seems more realistic.
Congrats on the baby. The sleep deprivation can make it hard to concentrate on reading so scaling back is a good choice. It is nice quiet time if it is just you and the new bundle with out other kiddos around if you are in that situation.
I am due to have my baby in the next couple of weeks, so I think the new moms shooting for one book a week make the most sense. I would say 52. I know I'll still at least be trying to read, even through the sleep deprivation.
I did/do a lot of audiobooks while nursing. Especially in the months when I was home on maternity leave, it felt like I spent all day in the rocking chair feeding the munchkin. At least with audio books I could get some reading in. I usually had two going, one if I was by myself and one that my husband was listening to with me.
Millie wrote: "Wow Christie now that is a goal. I would love to hear how you do with it."I have a half hour commute to work so I listen to quite a few audiobooks. I also read on my lunch break at work. I can read 60-100 pages a day pretty easily. Of course I also cheat a bit now. I used to read exclusively long, epic novels, but now read more YA and 300-400 page books. It inflates my numbers a bit.
I think I really need to try this audio book thing. At least I would get alot more house cleaning done lol.

I think I'm going to try to shake my reading plans up a bit for 2014 and try again to do something that I was going to do last year and didn't end up doing. My tentative goal for 2014 (outside of planned galley reads, buddy reads, challenge reads)
Read 1 book per month from a series I've stalled out on.
Read 1 book per month picked at random from my tbr (using a random number generator, so I'm not picking something based on mood or cover).
Bonus (if I am motivated) Read 1 book per month that I've been wanting to read but have been dragging my feet on (ex : it's long, or it's a genre I struggle with, or it's an author I want to try but am not sure I'll like, etc.)
That is an awesome plan - the random generator would drive me nuts personally. I Just don't think I'd have the self discipline to stick with that.
Stacia, I'm doing at least two books per month with the random generator! I'm choosing one book that I purchased and one freebie. It's "at least two" since I have rolled the 6th book in a series for February, which I haven't started, so I'm starting it now!
140 last year, 75 this year I need to study more...I'm also trying to clear out my to read list specifically
100 for me.. I only got through 61 last year, but I feel like it was a busy year for a while so I'm still going to aim for 100 again. I'm trying to pick more from my TBR, especially the ones that I already have and haven't gotten to.

I have to be in the mood."I think how I'm going to do it is wait until I have a day of the month where I'm more focused to read, so I can handle whatever comes up. In a way, that will be like having a day where I might choose to pick up a longer or serious book.
