Bert Murray | 3 comments Hi everyone,

Thanks to Book Haven for allowing me to promote my book! I am Bert Murray and I am an indie author. My first novel has just been published on the Amazon Kindle. The paperback will be out in January. Colin Preston Rocked And Rolled is a coming of age story about first love, friendship and betrayal that takes place at Elerby University in upstate New York. Colin is nineteen years old and lives for the Beatles, John Lennon and classic rock. He falls in love with his dream girl, Jasmine, an attractive student from Laguna Beach, California. Jasmine is a vegetarian who likes yoga, meditation, liberal politics and Jim Morrison. Colin comments on Beatles songs throughout the story and seems to rely on his idol, John Lennon, for guidance. It would be great to get some reviews. I look forward to joining discussions here at Book Haven!

"Colin Preston Rocked And Rolled is a novel that does a wonderful job of capturing the voices and lives of a certain time and place. The use of music– both music contemporary to the characters and Colin's beloved Beatles (already, of course, at the time of the novel, classic)– works especially well. Instead of using words, Colin, when in the grip of a strong emotion, puts on an appropriate song. Overall, the compactness of the story and the ease with which one identifies with Colin and his situation create an inevitability about the events that has an almost tragic quality as well as a strong structure. I felt I experienced it all with Colin, and it was a pleasure to read."

– Meredith Sue Willis, author of Ten Strategies to Start Your Novel and Out of the Mountains

"Bert Murray has produced a novel that is simultaneously absorbing, moving and funny - a character-driven page-turner that captures lightning in a bottle, and preserves a moment in time for eternity. I found the Beatles (and especially John Lennon) material compelling on several levels - as a fan, yes, but more so as a symbol of a generation gap, a figure for a grasping adolescent (or adult) to use when trying to figure things out, and as a touchstone - something every character and situation can be informed by."

-- John Altman, author of The Watchmen and A Gathering Of Spies

Lt. Samantha (Sam) Collins, who is a firefighter, vanishes after a warehouse fire the week before she was to testify at her estranged husband’s trial for drug charges. The only clue to her disappearance is a firefighter helmet that was left behind at the scene.

Sam’s mother calls Rachel for assistance in locating her daughter. However, the search for Sam takes her on a journey that she never expected.
As she digs deeper into Sam’s past, she finds out more about the marijuana operation that her husband Ken, a former police officer, was involved with. A. Rosaria | 28 comments May I make a blurb myself? :D

"You'll never ever feel the same about squishing a bug under your boot after reading this."

"Revenge in space is sweet."

I changed the settings on my site, now everybody can post a reaction. I had it set for Google accounts only, an error of mine.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Yes, sounds good. I like it!

message 21: by Matt (new)

Matt Damon | 2 comments I did an "Ask Me Anything" Q&A session on the social media aggregation site Reddit that was pretty popular and explains my unique backstory:

"So after enough time writing up reports that went directly into an electronic black hole I figured I was too young to feel like I was wasting my life stuck behind a desk. Now the book I wrote is up on the intertubes totally for free.

Maybe I just took Fight Club a little too seriously.

But I decided to leave the DoD to write a colloquial and accessible book about terrorism, I'd studied Government while in college, getting Harvard's equivalent of a minor in Arabic and taking as many classes about the Middle Eastern history and Islamic politics as I could - what's happening now in the Middle East is pretty much exactly what I studied, what'll happen when democracy finally comes along and sweeps across the region. So after doing the query letter thing I managed to land myself an agent who seemed pretty awesome. And then the literary industry began to collapse, and then the economy tanked. So we amicably parted ways and I set off on my own."

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I wanted to check out your link/book/writing/work. But the link wouldnt load. I have been having issues with my browser loading, but I would like to read more.

Jane Was Here by Sarah Kernochan

A mysterious young woman calling herself Jane turns up in a small New England town. She claims a fragmentary memory of growing up in this place, yet she has never been here before in her life. Upon her arrival, strange and alarming things begin happening to some of the town's inhabitants. As Jane's memories reawaken piece by piece, they carry her back to a long-buried secret, while the townspeople hurtle forward to a horrific event when past and present fatally collide.

Stefan Wit | 3 comments Hello fellow authors and avid readers,

If there's one thing I have learned from being an Indie author is that when an opportunity presents itself to blow your own horn, grasp it with both hands, (even if you drop your horn in the process). So here it is. Two books, two years; something a little different for all those adventure junkies. A cerebral jaunt, possibly. Kiss of the Mamba (Prequel to Blue Zulu) by Stefan Wit Blue Zulu is the sequel and they're both available as e-books on via Kindle.
I'm looking for ideas on cross marketing with another author, or if you just feel like doing a review, that would be great, just let me know.

Five Days in Summer

FIVE DAYS IN SUMMER was first published in 2004. Lisa Gardner called it "Mesmerizing." It was a USA Today bestseller. And went out of print.

Well, I just put my entire out-of-print backlist back into print, which is a very exciting feat for an author. You'll find all my bestselling thrillers (yes, even bestsellers sometimes go out of print) available here:

Zack Love (zacklove) | 11 comments The Doorman a Novelette by Zack Love

Alex seems to have it all: a great penthouse apartment, a lovely girlfriend, and a prestigious Wall Street job. But below the surface he is sure of nothing but his angst-ridden doubts. And when he realizes that his doorman may be God, or sent by God, he will question things like never before.

This novelette is a story of New York doormen, tormented love, empty office life, and the theological questions that arise in response to the horrors of evil.
The Doorman: a Novelette
