Greyweather Does Carlos Ruiz Zafon have some kind of issue with mothers?

I've read The Shadow of the Wind and I'm now in the midst of The Angel's Game, and I can't think of any positive mother figures.

They are all either dead, adulteresses, women who've abandoned their family, or background scenery.

Good observation! We're going to the Book Soup signing on Sunday, I'll try to remember to ask him.

Maybe the issue is with women in general? They're romanticized, beautiful and smart but weak. Except maybe for Bea, who's a bit of a spitfire.
