I've been re-reading Mistborn for a while, I'm currently getting close to finishing The Hero of Ages. So good :)
I'm reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane, along with a couple of non SF/F reads: Game (ebook) and A Tale of Two Cities (audio).I usually have an ebook active for when I'm at work or traveling, along with an audiobook I'll listen to when driving or working mindless tasks.
I am currently reading The Dark Unwinding by Sharon Cameron - but I'm not very far in.I recently got around to reading The Lightning Thief the other day. It was ok - but I got irritated with how stupid everyone was.
I just recently abandoned The Greyfriar. I was just bored by it, and even the awesome James Marsters could not pull me out of my "Meh... when's it over?" state. I'm also nominally reading The Peerless Four, which is a litfic book for review about 4 of the first female Olympic athletes in 1928. So far, I am not impressed.
I'm going to be starting Warbreaker soon though, for SF&F.
I just finished up a re-read of Silver May Tarnish. I love this book. Finding it hard as hell to review but...!!LOVE! *sigh*

Thanks for the link. :>Looks like the movie changed a lot - but, the "dyslexic 'cause your brain is hardwired for Greek" thing is definitely one of the WTF moments from the book.

SEriously???
*facepalm*
I read a book where the heroine had asthma and used her rescue inhaler multiple times a day - especially when startled. But the hero could stop her from having an asthma attack. Because...nerves/
I wanted to strangle the author - my husband has asthma and if you are using your rescue inhaler like that...something is medically wrong. It's not nerves.
Got hooked into the Jeremiah Hunt series and just started the second (King of the Dead
). Also almost through the latest Mickey Haller book (
). Reading
on my Kindle when I have time to just sit.

Well, I'm supposed to be reading
The Parasol Protectorate Boxed Set: Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless and Timeless but that seems to be on hold.... My reading funks have happened more often and for longer periods of time this year.

I've had a bad year for reading funks, as well.
I'm currently reading Shadows of the Pomegranate Tree after seeing it mentioned in another group. It's a period of history that really interests me and it's a pleasure to see it explored from the Islamic side. I initially had some issues with the telling instead of showing, but I've grown used to it as a stylistic choice -- it's quite fitting for a family saga that so much of the context is unveiled through the stories that family members tell each other of previous generations.
I'm hoping I'll finish it this afternoon, but the DVDs I got for my birthday are calling to me.

That sounds cool.
Hi guys!I just finished Crossed which was ridiculous so review pending.
I started Full Dark, No Stars on audio and I love it. The reader sounds like Jeff Bridges and it's great.
I'm actually reading A Storm of Swords.
Due to the season I'm going to be starting Go Home Santa, You're Drunk soon.
Helloooo. I'm currently reading Among Others by Jo Walton. It's a really good read so far and it is a different kind of fantasy to what I usually read. It is jam packed full of great Fantasy and Sci-fi books as the protagonist is a complete bibliophile!
Becca wrote: "Helloooo. I'm currently reading Among Others by Jo Walton. It's a really good read so far and it is a different kind of fantasy to what I usually read. It is jam packed full of grea..."Yes it is (on all counts)! I was quite pleasantly surprised when I read it.
Listopia: Novels mentioned in Among Others by Jo Walton
I finished The Magicians yesterday. And I'm not really sure if I loved it... or hated. I can't say if the reader was in on the joke of poking fun at fantasy... or if the reader *was* the joke. It read almost like a 12 step program for recovering nerds or something. But I bought The Magician King and started it next. So I must've liked it.
I love that bit about The Magicians. It's one of the most polarizing books I've read.Personally, I loved it.
I thought I hated The Magicians, but time has softened my opinion. I felt like I might want to read The Magician King but haven't been able to push myself to it yet. Let me know how it goes.PS - is there any way for me to link book names from my iPad or do I need to be on a real computer for that?
Hey everyone! I'm currently listening to The Lightning Thief on audio. I don't mind all the silly stuff that doesn't quite make sense, in fact I quite enjoy it. I liked the movie but the book is so much better. There are so many more monsters and adventures! I just finished The Invisible Man this morning. I liked it a lot more than The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine. Still deciding what my next book will be.
Jenny, I loved the Percy Jackson books! I hope you like them as much as I do! And I have been meaning to read H. G. Wells, thanks for the reminder. :)
I don't think The Magicians was poking fun at fantasy so much as it was an examination of the futility of escapism. Most of us, at some point in our lives, will probably feel that life could be perfect if we could only start over in a new land. When we're children, it might be Narnia or Oz; when we're adults, we might call it Australia or Scotland or France, but it's not really any of those countries, it's an idealised version of them that's just as much a fantasy as is the Narnia we wanted to escape to when we were eight.
The Magicians is what happens when you get that escape, when you get to move to your perfect fantasy land and have magical powers and supposedly leave all your troubles behind, only to discover that wherever you go, there you are.
I think it's a theme that is explored even better in the sequel actually, so anyone who's read The Magicians and is on the fence about The Magician King, I heartily recommend it. :)

I decided to pick up the belgariad again. I think I want to try to write reviews for all of the books but I find they've all run together in my head.

I wasn't sure I was going to continue or not until I finished the book. I had to see what happened next. But I did think the (very) end was something of a... well a cheat. And it didn't fit the rest of the book, in my opinion. But I did like it. Even Quentin. And I'm enjoying the sequel. It has a sloth - how could you not like a book with a sloth?
I just started the sixth Dresden book (Blood Rites). I just caught up with the Mercy Thompson series, and was still craving a bit of UF. I'm also reading The Burning Land by Bernard Cornwell, having somehow missed all of the books in the Warrior Chronicles series after Sword Song.

Ugh... I hated The Magicians. Hated it to the point that I was finding excuses not to read it, and ended up quitting after the (view spoiler)And I hated every single character.
I certainly didn't get anything like T's observations out of what I read - but I didn't finish, so... not surprising. I just knew that I hated it enough to want to scrub toilets instead of reading it. LOL
