Can anyone recommend a good series to start that doesn't have vampires? Or werewolves, for that matter? Shapeshifters are okay, just kind of burned out on the two things listed. Doesn't matter if the romance is tame or erotic.

If you like the fae, you might like Dana Marie Bell's Gray Court series-definnitely PNR and definitely hot. There is one vampire MC in the series, but the main focus is on different fae.
Jayne Ann Krentz (contemporary) has a series on the Arcane Society which deals with people who have a variety of psychic abilities. It's quite long and includes a series of historicals (Amanda Quick) and futuristics (Jayne Castle). However, it isn't necessary to cross genres unless you want to. Most of her books can be found at the library.
Her newer books deal with psychics but not the Arcane Society.
You might want to check out Christine Feehan's Drake Sisters series, and Nora Roberts has several trilogies that deal with magic.
I don't remember any vampires or shapeshifters in the Lucy Valentine series (psychics, witches and odd family magic talents):
Seriously more cozy mystery and chick-lit/romance than paranormal, though, in my opinion. More like some paranormal bits with special powers got tossed into contemporary romance. Not a cardboard cast of characters; even side characters get fleshed out so if burned out on the kickass chicks that have no family, friends or non-work-related ornon-sexual social interactions it could be a fluffy change on the sappy side.
How do you feel about zombies?
had some of the best worldbuilding ever (a Hugo winner in the mix) although it's less about zombie appearances than how the world changed once there were zombies. Helluva immersion into the characters. A friend had to force me past the downloaded sample because the first few pages were a gungho teenager stupidly taunting zombies which did not interest me (well written, but not my thing). Not horror genre zombies. If you like your zombie books creepy with horror elements and lots of fight/flee scenes, checkout the standalone
for a twisted take (definitely gory and gross bits so I'd put it in horror and uf genres). I found and read it after author Steven L. Hawk was being attacked by readers mad at Steven Hawk; drew me in to finishing (unfortunately since I don't care for the creepy/horror end of UF and I'm a real softie for the puppies -- steal traumatized a bit by the cheesy horror move The Blob where puppy was one of the first ones to bite the dust not to mention Sookie's poor kitty...)
