Cosmic Sher (sherart) There's so much hubbub about 2012 nowadays, and so many conflicting theories on what it means. A galactic alignment, a new age of raised consciousness, armegeddeon, world war 3, visitation by aliens, or simply a non-issue...
What is your take on it?

If you have any books to reference here, please use the 'add book/author' link above.

My favorite book about this is:
The Mystery of 2012 Predictions, Prophecies & Possibilities

I actually didn't know about this date, but I saw that this article on it:

Cosmic Sher (sherart) Ian Xel Lungold, who was one of the premier scholars on the Mayan calendar, actually believed the end of the calendar was October 28, 2011 and this date is backed up by other Mayan scholars, such as Carl Johan Calleman. I guess there is quite a debate going on between the two camps of thought.

Calleman wrote a paper on this recently, which was really interesting. You can read this on the Mayan Majix website (

The paper can be found at this location:

Cecilia | 359 comments I read a little about the Mayan calander and the 2012 date but am personally not too worried. Guess it will come and go and do what it will. From what I've heard, it's not necessarily the end of the world but was the end of the Mayan time perhaps meaning a new beginning of something else.

However, a fun/weird site to look at that touches on the topic along others is the website: ExitMundi.

Have a's a blast.

Dottie | 27 comments An apocalypsy? One has to imagin just how would that take place? What kind of MAYJOR Catastrophe would take place that would fall in the catogary of an apocalyps? I don't know enough about this dums day therory. I am not a person who gives into this kind of end of the world thinking. To me its negitive thinking. When you read the different points of view it seems to me to be split. I tend to lean towards those that say the calender does not end here.

Cosmic Sher (sherart) I personally like the ideas of a change toward a new era, hopefully for the better. There is much talk of an evolution (of sorts) of consciousness, and there are some scientists that are seriously linking this with new perceptions of what evolution entails.

I find it pretty fascinating. But, I don't think any of us should cancel our plans for Dec 23rd of that year. ;)

Melissa | 72 comments I am very much of the feeling that it is a change coming instead of an all out destruction. A new dawning of awareness, major understanding of others and our place in the universe, new technilogical advances that will take us to different levels of learning and living, I am not sure but I just do not feel like it could be the end.

I know a couple years ago I saw something about how one of the great philosophers was saying that though things on the planet would change it would not be gone until hundreds of years after we are all gone. It would be eventually hitting the sun. I will have to look for that information again.
