Veronica Perdomo | 2 comments This post is for my hubby. He read the first book in this series in roughly 1998, though it was not a new publication at the time.

Here's what he can remember: Story starts in post-apocalyptic USA. The protagonist is a gunman who dates a tall (mutant?) red-headed woman with super strength. They are members of a group gathered probably by chance and circumstance. One female member of the group is an Olympic archer. In their roaming, they discover teleportation platforms which transport them to Japan, where by a series of events the protagonist is set up to kill an important and influential samurai.

*****SPOILER ALERT?*********

The main character has a son, but not whom we meet in the first book. The main character uses a knife to kill the samurai.

This is pretty much all he can remember. Help, please!

Tab (tabbrown) | 4967 comments This sounds like the Deathlands series, although it doesn't appear to be YA. https://www.goodreads.com/series/4097...

The one set in Japan is likely Keepers of the Sun Keepers of the Sun (Deathlands, #31) by James Axler

The wiki page gives a descrip of the characters/plot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathlands

Krysty Wroth is mentioned as being a mutant known for her red hair and marksmanship
