Lindy (lliedl) I'm fairly certain this is a YA book:
The main character is a redhead in her early 20s who lives in Ireland. The story is set in wintertime. (I remember a scene where she's walking the streets of Ireland and the slushy, wet weather is discribed.)
There may be a male main character who she meets later. This character and/or upcoming events get her pulled into another world and/or time where she discovers she has some sort of power(?)
Also, sometime in the woman's past she was raped and later she has to confront this trauma because it happens to her again when she is held captive.

The cover: Redheaded woman seated on the ground in front of a tree.

A guess - The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley? The Winter Sea (Slains, #1) by Susanna Kearsley

Around what year did you read this book?
Could it have been Scotland, or was it definitely Ireland?
Was it time travel to the past, or travel to a unique fantasy world? What was this world like?
