the primary authors are different. my guess is one of them has an extra space somewhere. try merging the authors.
They were exactly the same, no extra spaces. Strange. Still, merging the profiles worked.
ok, i'm glad i'm not the only one who sees that occasionally! sometimes i just cut and paste identical names, and yet they need merging. weird!
I'm not into technicalities, but if the names are copied from another place sometimes letters can look the same but be different [ascii???]. In other times I've noticed GR will auto-correct a name [with/out accents].

...cannot be combined? They only appear in pairs (ebook + hardcover and ebook + kindle edition) in the search, but are unavailable to each other on the combine page. Author and translator are the same, at least as far as I can see.
The same thing happens for volume 1 of the multi-volume book.
