Notable works:

Musrum (1968)
Wintersol (1971)
Flick Knives and Forks (1982)

Both books were praised for their elegant writing, wit and wordplay, and especially for their sheer invention. And they look delightfully barmy.

Guardian obit by George Melly:

Written with the clarity of a regency gothic novel, both works burst with invention. Here, for example, is a short list of some of the Weed King's allies: "The Lupandroids and Werewolves with their bites and howls; the Swampires or Bogsuckers; the Slobgoblins, Snotfiends and worm-people. > Sounds like a must for fans of Theroux's fable books.

Holy goddamn Musrum was amazing. Thanks for bringing it up here, as it would likely have forever passed me by, and that would have been a shame.

Review here - I've included pictures, because it's a stunning book to look at, not just to read.
