From a newspaper article on the translation (sticky-taped inside my ex-library copy):"In 1951 Kimon Friar... fell under its spell. He gave up his academic posts in the United States to work directly with the author on an English verse translation... He worked with Kazantzakis daily, and as the first draft of each book was completed the two went over it together word by word, line by line."
