Two parents in Washington state have been found guilty of murder after following the abusive parenting techniques advocated in the parenting book "To Train Up a Child" by Michael and Debi Pearl.

Lex Allen (lexallenbooks) It's no surprise, I'm sure, that the Pearl's lead a million dollar Christian ministry. I'm certain that these people and the hundreds of thousands that contribute to their so-called ministry are not true Christians.

Atheists and agnostics will shake their heads and claim another mark against Christianity, but will likely not take any direct action. They shouldn't.

Obviously, the "law" can't do anything about them due to freedom of speech (which includes writing books). Although, since authorities can take action against child pornographers and people who remotely associate with their books, videos and lifestyle... child abuse is but a short step away, and the Pearl's, in their right to express themselves, put forth ideas that are truly child abusive.

But, it's Christians, true Christians that should take strong action to bankrupt or otherwise bring down the Pearls.

Skyler Myers (the_olde_guarde) | 13 comments This is what happens when you follow the word of the omniscient, creator of the universe's advice on how to raise your children (do not spare the rod - essentially beat them into submission). As Robert Ingersoll humorously pointed out:

"And why does this same God tell me how to raise my children when he had to drown his?”

Lex Allen (lexallenbooks) Speaking of quotes, Skyler - here are a few of God's straight from his bestselling novel, The Bible that give monsters like the Pearl's their license:

Proverbs 29:15
The rod and reproof give wisdom,
but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

Proverbs 23:13-14
Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.

Exodus 21:17
“Whoever curses his father or his mother shall be put to death

Child Rearing 101... disgusting, isn't it?

While I agree we most likely cannot prohibit publishing of the item without starting down a slippery slope, we can discourage book retailers from selling the text. There is an active petition, for example, for Amazon to stop selling it:

Lex Allen (lexallenbooks) Thanks, Donegal... I not only signed the petition, I've included it in every social media platform I'm involved with.
