William Peters | 7 comments Thanks for your response, KarmaBites.

Yes, there are editions set up, but I don't know how to set up Kobo and Apple versions.

The ISBN issued by Draft2Digital for the iBook, Kobo and Nook versions of my book is: 9781507098387; it was released on 01‑23‑2015 on these retailers.

Cheers,

Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments #161 - That would then just be listed as an ebook. You would not differentiate between Kobo/Apple/iBook.

L'amante des livres (l_amante_des_livres) | 62 comments Hello there!
This book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... has only one edition but as you can see it seems like it has two. There were two editions for the same book and the same isbn, so I combined them and then I deleted the one that had all the data wrong and had no cover. But although I deleted it (yesterday), it is still visible as an edition without cover. If I click on that edition without the cover, I still see the right edition with the cover. Can you fix that please, delete the edition without the cover?
Thanx a lot!

message 155: by Philip (new)

Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments #163 - If you click on the "all editions" link on the book page you will see that there is only 1 edition. The thumbnails showing under the other editions section are cached, and could usually take a few days to be cleaned up.

message 156: by L'amante (new)

L'amante des livres (l_amante_des_livres) | 62 comments Yes, I had done that, click on the "all editions" link, and I had seen there is only one edition there. I suppose my problem was the thumbnail! Thanx Philip! :-)

Sarah | 124 comments What is the proper procedure for adding a new edition if you're not a librarian?

**EDIT: NEVER MIND I GOT MADE A LIBRARIAN I AM SO EXCITED I'M TALKING IN RUN-ON SENTENCES AND ALL CAPS I PROMISE I'LL BE GOOD THOUGH**

message 161: by Philip (new)

Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments #169 - BTW, it is the same manner if you are or are not a Librarian. Click on the "Add a New Edition" link on the book page or the all editions page.

message 162: by Sarah (last edited Feb 06, 2015 09:37AM) (new)

Sarah | 124 comments Yeah, the question was about adding a new edition with an existing ISBN. I removed the details because it was no longer relevant.

But actually, although the manual says to add it without the ISBN and then edit in a note, you can just stick the note at the top of the description when you first add the edition. You can't add the librarian's note if you're not a librarian, but that appears to be optional.

Adding the librarian note can be very useful when combining, as those notes appear on the combine screen (obviously more useful with books that shouldn't be combined with a main work, but still useful nonetheless).

message 164: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 124 comments So, if a non-librarian adds a new edition that has a duplicate ISBN, should they post a request here for the librarian's note to be added?

I've been spending some quality time with the combining screen this morning, and there appear to mostly not be notes.

message 165: by Philip (new)

Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments They can do that. The librarian note is not a requirement, but it is very helpful.

Should at least put it in the description field.

lethe | 16372 comments https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

I couldn't find my copy of The Abbess of Crewe in the list, but when I tried to add it I got an error message that the ISBN already existed. It directed me to a copy with a different (and I believe much later) cover image. Can an alternative cover be added? To be found here: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/Boo...
(According to the rules, abebooks covers are allowed???)
Also, my copy says: Published in Penguin Books 1975 - Reprinted 1976, 1977 (twice), 1979, 1981
Which is the YoP to be used, 1981 or 1975? The manual isn't clear on this.

message 167: by Sarah (last edited Feb 07, 2015 12:05PM) (new)

Sarah | 124 comments Which date to put for reprints is always a pain to figure out. Ideally it should be the date that that edition with that cover was first published (maybe, at least sometimes). Does yours specify the copyright date for the cover (sometimes they do)?

Just to verify, does yours have ISBN
0140040749 (ISBN13: 9780140040746) ?

message 168: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 124 comments I added it here, with the information from the abebooks page:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Is the number of pages correct? How many does your version have? (I guessed that it was a mass-marked-sized paperback base don the proportions of the image, but please let me know if that's wrong and I'll fix it.)

message 169: by lethe (new)

lethe | 16372 comments Hi Sarah, yes, that's the correct ISBN. Number of pages is correct and it is indeed a mass-market paperback.
My copy doesn't specify the copyright date for the cover, alas.
I think in this case 1975 would be the correct YoP then.

Thanks!

Okay, I changed it to 1975. (If anyone thinks it should be done differently, I will not be offended if you change it again.)

message 171: by Greg (new)

Greg | 108 comments I've just added a new edition of Judge Dredd: Mechanismo but there are a few issues about it. Originally published in comic book format, the comics were collected in a paperback book in 1993 (Judge Dredd: Mechanismo), which was republished with a different cover in 2009 (Judge Dredd: Mechanismo). The new edition that I added has been published as volume 24 of the Judge Dredd: The Mega Collection series, although it is the second volume in order of printing.

The first volume in order of printing, Judge Dredd: America, has been added by another user as a new book rather than as a new edition, and he has created a new series for the Judge Dredd: The Mega Collection. However, if I add this new volume to the series, then earlier editions will end up being included and this is probably not appropriate. Therefore, should I have added Judge Dredd: Mechanismo as a new book instead?

Also, although I have double-checked the ISBN given on the book itself, the entry page for the book suggests it may be invalid. As I think the book has just been published in the last few days, I suspect this is only a temporary issue.

Sorry, I changed my mind.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

The black blurb on the cover (Now filmed as 'Nasty Habits' ...) wasn't added until later. The film came out in 1977. Can you change the YoP to 1981 (my particular copy) and maybe add "first Penguin ed. 1975"? (See also #175)

Also pls change Of to of in the title.

Thanks!

message 173: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 124 comments I thought about checking the date of the film, but I was doing something else and didn't ever get around to it. I changed the date to 1981 and fixed the "Of" (I have no idea why I didn't catch that the first time. I change a lot of mis-capitalizations.)

Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments #183 - If you are trying to add a new edition that has the same ISBN as another edition or book, then you just create the Record without an ISBN and then reference in the description that it is an ACE (Alternate Cover Edition) of the ISBN.

alana | 4 comments Hi, I just added the English-language Kindle edition of the single issue comic The Infinite Loop: https://www.goodreads.com/review/new/...
It was first published in French: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Please note: I believe the French listing is for a collected volume of all six issues, while the English version I created is for issue #1 alone. I'm not sure how to properly link the two editions. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the reply!
The English edition of the comic "The Infinite Loop" is a six part series published by IDW in monthly issues. Here's a link to the Kindle edition of "The Infinite Loop, #1" I made a Goodreads listing for: http://www.amazon.com/Infinite-Loop-1... (Issues #2 and #3 are linked at the bottom of that Amazon page.)
There are only three issues released so far, and all three are now listed on Goodreads:
Issue #1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Issue #2: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Issue #3: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

At the moment, these are not linked to one another as part of a series.

Also, the French edition (which shows up as the default when using the Goodreads search engine for "The Infinite Loop") is actually Tome 1 (Volume 1) which will collect multiple issues. Here is the publisher listing for The Infinite Loop, Tome 1 from the publisher Gleant: http://www.glenatbd.com/bd/the-infini... (Note this book is 112 pages as opposed to the 29 pages of Issue #1) Currently, the English Kindle edition of "The Infinite Loop, Issue #1" and the French collected volume of The Infinite Loop - Tome 1 are listed as editions of the same work, but the French one is actually a collection. They are all part of the same series, though. The French edition will be divided over two volumes collecting the six issues. (This will be the second volume in French: http://www.glenatbd.com/bd/the-infini...)

Thank you so much for helping to organize everything! I hope that explanation makes sense. Please let me know if you need any other information.

Thanks so much for the speedy reply!

I've been looking around to find out what exactly is included in the first French edition. None of the official websites seem to specify, but this review references that it's in "three chapters/trois chapitres" (http://themightyblog.fr/2015/02/the-i...). I feel labeling it as 1-3 is a safe assumption.

Thanks so much for sorting this out! The search results are so easy to understand now.

Firstly, I have moved the ASIN back to the original edition and added a note to the new edition that this is an alternative cover. ASINs on published editions may NOT be moved. See https://www.goodreads.com/help/librar... , especially the sentence in bold.

Secondly, you have only just added the alternative edition. Due to caching, it may take up to 24 hours for the new cover to show up in searches.

Oh yes, I saw that you had been working on the record only an hour or so ago and assumed that was also when you uploaded the image (ETA: and made it the default). I now see that you uploaded it much earlier, sorry about that.

(In exceptional cases it may take 48 hrs for the cache to clear. I tried just now and the old cover still comes up in the search.)

XXX (wfdealmeida) | 431 comments Editions combined

Librarians can't change primary editions, only the authors can do that, see here how to
https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...

Also, we can't change covers from books already published, but we can create an alternative cover edition page to the new version. If you can provide the new cover, we could do that

PS: Do you have a cover to this edition: 9781301962211?

I tried to add a new edition of Puncher's Chance in order to add a new cover. Apparently I didn't replicate the information of the old edition correctly. The new edition does not have the link to make it the displayed edition, nor does it show as a selection for an edition on the original page. The Puncher's Chance page is here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

The new page with the updated cover is here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Arenda | 26455 comments #207 updated the alternate cover edition you created. Both authors were in the primary author field, making a new author profile. Corrected that: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

You should now be able to make the new cover the default: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...
