Adding new editions of existing books

So, every now and then my edition isn't in the system. For example, I have a stack of Chip Hilton sports books by Clair Bee from the 40's and 50's, but the only editions in the system are paperback reprints from within the last ten years. So I avail myself of the 'add new edition' link.

But when I'm finished, the link has created a whole new book, not associated with the other edition that you have. I don't understand. Am I doing something wrong?

Nope. You did right. When you add a new edition you're actually adding a new book. It's up to the librarians to combine your entry to the main entry. Just post your links to the entries in this group so the librarians can help you combine them.

Hi, all! I've just added a paperback edition of an already-existing book, but forgot to upload a cover. The system won't allow me to go back to the listing to put in a cover. How can I fix this?

The book was already on the site, as a Kindle edition. The paperback edition has the same cover as the Kindle edition.

Hi. I'm in the process of putting out some new editions of my books, and the e-book version of one of them does not have an avatar of the cover with it --

The paperback edition does have the avatar, but apparently this one needs to be added, even though I imported it from Smashwords. Is it possible to get a jpg of the cover added to the e-book listing?

Also the older versions of the book are no longer available. How does one take the old versions off without losing the reviews?

#41: As Smashwords is a publisher, I can add it from there, and have done so. One thing about the import - it doesn't always import covers, so those often have to be added manually afterwards (have noticed this when having done it myself - sometimes it can be better to manually add a new record and all information).

Have also combined it with the other editions. We do not remove older editions (see here for more information) - we are more of a library than a bookseller, so all editions stay, whether still in print or not.

I see that you're not currently a GR author. You can apply for your profile here. Once you have that, you will have a limited amount of control over your books, which includes combining (but not separating) editions, adding covers and missing information (but not removing, as changing of correct old edition information is forbidden - the information is only changed if it was incorrect in the first place), and setting the default edition for a work (which only GR authors and staff can do).
