Thanks for posting this, ToniS. They are very interesting. My daughter says the character on the dogs' foreheads reads "emperor".
I am just at the beginning of chapter 12, 63% finished, and I'm still waiting for the action to pick up. Just maybe, (view spoiler) And I am wondering about Christy (view spoiler)

Great photo of the Dogs of Fo. Thanks for posting.

I am just into chapter 12 and I agree with what you say about Charles. I don't think (view spoiler) . I hope (view spoiler) I kind of like him. I also wonder if that was really (view spoiler) .

I was hoping the little dog would turn out to be Samson.

Are you able to tie in the quotes at each chapter in with the story? She does this a lot, but always goes right over my head.

Some of the quotes actually seemed like a preview of the chapter, this time. I may not know the source material, but I felt that several times the quotes hinted at the events of the chapter (4 & 5 for example, or chapter 8, "But who shall teach thee what the night-comer is?" (view spoiler)

Just started 12 myself. Good thoughts. I wonder about those things as well.

Now we find out the dogs are yellow! So here's another Foo/Fo dog pic that seems very close to the description in this chapter:

Mary Stewart says so much indirectly, so well!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

This comment is from an old 2013 post, but I thought it was worth pointing out to our current reading group that it's worth going back to each quote after you've read the chapter. The quotes always make sense in retrospect, but usually not before you read the chapter. And they're often quite amusing because Mary Stewart would often use them out of context, but in a way that fits the novel.

I am now extremely suspicious about (view spoiler)

😌 That's my I-know-but-I'm-not-telling face.

if you've never read the latter, it's the second in a series that starts with Dog On It!

I can NEVER put down a book when it gets too tense. I’m more likely to start skimming it as fast as I can read.

I didn't see that and need to go back and find it!

I know what you mean, but last night I knew I needed to relax so I could sleep as much as possible as I had to get up at 5 today.
I am stopping again tonight so as to be fresh for the end of the book. really picks up, doesn't it?!!
yes, the series that starts with Dog On It is mysteries and told from a dog's POV. very well done, I think. I recommend the first one at least. going back to the second one, now, so as to wait and savor the ending of Gabriel Hounds.
(looks like my suspicions (view spoiler) were all wet)

This made me chuckle: “He(Charles)’s got a lot of sense.” “I thought he was spoiled rotten and lived for nothing but pleasure?” “If that doesn’t show sense I don’t know what does.”
(view spoiler) - it really is picking up. Like Tadiana, it’ll reach a point where I won’t be able to put it down. But, not there just yet!
Note: I am dividing the read into 5 sections, each 4 chapters long. I may adjust as we go, so check the chapter numbers for each section! :)
