Which LIST book did you just finish?

Yes I liked it a lot! Especially the characters."
Me too! Very cozy read, made me think of childhood and home ^^
Winter wrote: "Jean wrote: "I completed
The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho."I started it today, was it good?"
You know, it's okay but there is just something about Coelho's writing that drags for me. Wonderful theme and ideas.
I just finished Persuasion by Jane Austen. Didn't like this one as much as Northanger Abbey but it was ok.

You should! It was my first book from Austen and I really enjoyed it.
Mia wrote: "I just finished Persuasion by Jane Austen. Didn't like this one as much as Northanger Abbey but it was ok."This was the only book by Austen I didn't really like. Haven't read Northanger Abbey yet, but I will :)
I just finished Love in the Time of Cholera and I absolutely loved it. It was my first book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but I can't wait to read more of his work.

I think my favorite Austen (until now) is Emma
Read Persuasion earlier this year. Can't say it was my favorite. Finished Bleak House today. It took a bunch of patience to read, but the effort was well spent!
Just finished The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje. What calm and poetic writing. I gave it 4 stars.
I just finished Rituals by Cees Nooteboom, my 50th book from the list and a book from the Netherlands, where I'm from. I am trying to read a few short ones to complete all my challenges before the end of the year and still have time to read the books I want to read but aren't from the list ;)
I have recently finished Decline and Fall by Evelyn Waugh and Black Dogs by Ian McEwan. Both 3 stars. The first is clearly funny, but takes place among 20th century upper class English--a world I am definitely not familiar with. It is very much a picaresque story, so it's a bit much.
The second is not so much a story as a study. Interesting, but not my favorite McEwan.
I finished listening to Lolita read by Jeremy Irons a few days ago. He is a great narrator and now I want to read the text.
Mia wrote: "I just finished Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol."Liked it? I have read it some years ago, but I want to read it again some day, don't remember much.

I did, more than I thought. Even the story wasn't that interesting, it was beautifully written.
I've just finished reading Around the World in Eighty Days. It was good, though not as good as I expected.
Finished The Bell Jar today. This may sound strange given the content but I found it to be a funny fast read.
Marina wrote: "I've just finished reading Around the World in Eighty Days. It was good, though not as good as I expected."I felt the same way.
I had to give up on The Man With the Golden Arm by Nelson Algren, the first list book I've given up on. I just didn't understand much of the slang and was losing the storyline. Did anyone else feel the same way about it?
The Devil And Miss Prym - I thought I'd get a head start on the next group read and I'd finished it in a couple of hours. So, a quick and enjoyable read :-)
3 1/2 stars
The Count of Monte CristoFinally finished this tome! For a Classic it is a fairly easy and "fun" read.
Well after nearly a year of reading it off-and-on, I finally finished Middlemarch
by George Eliothttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My 40th book from the list.

Good effort!
Finished Cannery Row by John Steinbeck. A book with no real plot but still rather enjoyable in it's own way.
The Military Philosophers - definitely my least favourite in the series so far. Too many new characters and too much war related information. Rather boring.2 stars
The Devil and Miss Prim by Paulo Coelho. Good book, interesting thoughts although I don't agree at all points.
The Sun Also Rises: The book has a really slow start. If it had been a 500 pages book, I would have abandoned it. The first 2/3 of the book was a 2-star read for me, but then finally things started happening. The scene at the end of chapter 16 is worth the whole book. Tension. Though the book is short, it is not an easy read. You have to pay attention. Even after finishing it I a not really sure what it was about. But I do not seem to be the only one judging from reviews.
Finished the Shining, read it for Halloween. I try to read gothic or horror in October. The book went by rapidly, found myself glad my house has had no death in it. Don't really like this type of book.

4-5 stars"
Nice description! :) I finished that one at the beginning of this year and I loved it. Definitely on my favorites list.
Finished Spring Torrents (review on http://1001everything.blogspot.com) I would have never discovered Turgenev if it wasn't for the List.
Janet wrote: "Just finished The Iron Heel - inspired by those who abandoned it. Loved it. Over a hundred years old and yet a frightening description of present day politics in the UK. A cross between 1984 and th..."Wow it's fascinating how one book can be hated by one and loved by another! I didn't hate it myself exactly, but not my favorite either to say the least.
Winter wrote: "Janet wrote: "Just finished The Iron Heel - ..."For me it was one of those book that was not a joy to read, but afterwards I was happy that I did, and I had a lot to think about.

^^ Books are that way sometimes :)
I just finished The Shining by Stephen King for the Halloween read from one of my groups. Until I finished it, I didn't realize it is in the list as well. I liked it a lot, it had some scary moments.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - A re-read but it's been a few years. An absolute classic for those whose humour is orientated that way. Mine absolutely is.5 stars
Never Let Me Go - A very quick read. It holds quite the emotional punch but I really didn't start feeling it until near the end due to the clinical and matter of fact style of writing.4 stars
Yesterday I finished The English Patient, after a long struggle. I didn't like it. The writing style was good but the novel itself wasn't my cup of tea - too boring for my taste.
Hunger - Ouch. Light reading (listening) this was not...I can't say I enjoyed it exactly but it was very well written.
3 stars
