Raphael Harlan | 11 comments Welcome to the group, Vivek! My name is Raphael, and I'm an indie author of mystery and cougar romance fiction and some nonfiction. I'm also one of the first editors in the group.

I've written and self-published three e-books, which the first two are non-fiction. My first mystery is Water Rate Challenge, which is on Kindle and Nook.

I professionally edit e-book manuscripts written by authors like yourself. If you want to learn more about me, visit www.raphaeltharlanbooks.weebly.com. I look forward to interacting with you and hopefully working with you on your future books.

Shawnee E. (shawneskridge) | 8 comments Hi. I'm Shawn. I'm an editor new to this group. I'm also a writer with one book released and currently writing on my second. I love to read primarily mysteries and romance. However, I appreciate great story telling in almost any genre. It takes me a little longer to get into some sci-fi. My editing rates are affordable and listed on my Scarlett's Letters blog: www.scarlettsmedia.blogspot.com. I look forward to interracting within the group.

Hi I'm Dani, I am an author (I hope) new to the group. I really would like an honest, non-harsh review on my first Novel. I'm plaguing different sites to try and find someone to help and not someone who is going to tear strips out of me and tell me to get back under my writing rock and not come out until I have a best seller written. Its a fictional novel that is drama laced with comedy and is hopefully as entertaining as I would like it to be. Look forward to chatting with everyone and hearing about others experiences

message 14: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Caplan | 2 comments Hi Everyone! I am so happy to have found this group! My name is Leslie Caplan. I specialize in editing and coaching for personal journey stories, memoirs, travel journals, personal essays, anything that has spiritual, healing, heart and transformation content. I also assist with Web and Brochure content for those who need help in capturing the essence of themselves, for their business. Below are two testimonials that will give you a sense of who I am and what I do. I look forward to working together!

"Working on my memoir with Leslie has been like engaging with my own self in another body. She becomes the self that can see perspectives I feel blind to, can hear a deeper story that I am too scared to birth alone, and can spot the undotted i or uncrossed t that eludes me. She has the skill to be present to all of these arenas a writer traverses. And she does it with such heart. I wholeheartedly recommend her as coach or editor on your writing project."
Sarah Rose Marshank, Writer, Coach, Mentor- Ashland, OR

"Some people elevate the energy of a room simply with their presence. Leslie is one of those people. She is an exquisite blend of grace and charm and raw earth. She is one of the most accessible people I have ever met. In person and in the groups she facilitates, her presence creates a palpable synergy; an atmosphere of safety, inclusion, discovery, exploration and deep authentic appreciation. It is in this beautiful container that she creates that I found not only the courage to dive back into writing but also the passion I have for writing. I love knowing her and am excited to work with her again." Isha Haddigan, Ashland, OR

Eva (grotesquemask) | 1 comments Hello everyone! My name is Eva and I currently study BA English Language and Literature. I am considering working in the publishing industry as an editor in the future, and this is why I am going to apply for a number of publishing Masters in the UK. I have been learning English since a very young age, and my studies have contributed to my having a thorough knowledge of the language.
Furthermore, I have two wordpress blogs; http://grotesquemask.wordpress.com/, where I post my own thoughts and feelings, and https://artlifebooksandliterature.wor..., where I frequently post book reviews and literature-related articles. If you would like to offer the opportunity to a budding editor to proofread your work, do not hesitate to contact me! :-)

Lin | 75 comments Mod
Hi folks!
My name is Lin and I offer editing/proofreading services through www.coinlea.co.uk particularly for UK based writers. I love helping writers to find the story they are trying to tell, and to polish it so that it is ready for publication. My main purpose in editing is to help the writer's voice and meaning come across clearly.
I've worked with all sorts of genres, but I'm particularly interested in working with memoirs and other creative non-fiction, and I've decided that I really can't do proper justice to erotica.
I enjoy reading a wide variety of books, from fantasy and SF through crime to women's fiction, and I'm constantly working on my own writing and editing skills.
My usual way of working is to offer a complete readthrough with thorough feedback and sample edit for a small fee (which works as a deposit for further editing agreed). I can then quote a fee for further work.
Alternatively, I can offer a free sample edit on your first 2000 words.

J.M. Rankin (jmrankin) | 64 comments Hi everyone!
My name is Jacqui. I am a professional, fully qualified copy-editor and proofreader and have been working for both writers and publishers alike since 2008.
I work happily with all sorts of genres, including non-fiction.
I offer a free assessment of the first 1000 words to determine the level of help required as I don't believe in taking on work that doesn't need my help.
I am a published author with my first novel available in paperback and on Kindle, and my next two novels due for publication later this year.

If you would like to discuss your work with me please feel free to contact me via Goodreads, my direct email whitediamondedits@gmail.com, or through my website whitediamondedits.wordpress.com

I look forward to working with you :)

Shayna (agoddessreads) | 4 comments Hello all!

My name is Shayna, and I am currently at university for a B.A. in English and Literature. I'm very new to the editing and publishing world, only just discovering what career I'd like to take.
I'm hoping to meet people who love editing and would be willing to share their experiences and help out a newbie like me! My e-mail is shayxgl@gmail.com or if you'd like to message me on here that would be dandy. Can't wait to hear from some of you :)

message 19: by Agent (new)

Agent S.D. | 2 comments Hello! My name is Sarah DeMont, and a few years ago I published my debut book, The Secret Discussions. I have a little experience beta reading and proofreading for authors, and I really want to immerse myself further into this type of work. Making money off this is not a priority right now, but I would love the opportunity to build my portfolio and develop skills. If there are any editors here looking for another editor to work on projects with/an assistant/etc., please message me through GoodReads or e-mail me at threesecretagents@gmail.com. Authors looking for free editing, beta reading, or proofreading services are more than welcome to contact me as well. Lastly, if you have any advice on how to start working in publishing, it would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks!
Sarah

message 23: by Alison (new)

Alison | 1 comments I am a UK-based writer, editor and independent novelist. I love reading and I love to write. These are the two great passions of my life. I work on a freelance basis for several academic writing companies and copy write and edit for my husband’s communications consultancy. I have worked for US clients and am happy to edit in either UK or US English.
I have a first degree in English Language and Literature, a Masters in Creative Writing and a professional journalism qualification and have taught creative writing with a focus on grammar, punctuation, creativity, voice and expression.
I am a keen supporter of independent novelists. It frustrates me when a talented writer is held back or receives negative reviews because of typos or structural errors. If you have put a lot of time and effort, and indeed your heart and soul, into a book, then the last thing you want is for it to be criticised for errors that can be rectified with a professional edit of your work. The truth is that we don’t always see the mistakes we make because we are so familiar with the words we have written. This is where I can help. I can be the fresh pair of eyes that check and evaluate your work in an unbiased and supportive way. I have no wish to write your book for you, so I won’t try to alter your ‘voice’. And any recommendations that I make are just that – recommendations. It is entirely up to you whether you choose to use them or ignore them. It is your book, not mine.
I want your book to be the best it can be and I want you to hit that ‘publish’ button secure in the knowledge that you have done all you can to ensure that your work is up to standard. I will work with you to achieve that aim, giving honest and supportive feedback and suggestions along the way.
I am offering discounts to new clients at the moment - so do get in touch to discuss how I can help.
You can find out more about my services here:

message 24: by Harrison (new)

Harrison Demchick | 19 comments Fun thread!

I'm Harrison Demchick. I'm a developmental editor with nine years experience in the publishing industry. During that time, I've edited a couple dozen published novels--and naturally, quite a few others that haven't made it there yet. Books I've edited have been optioned for film. Others have become cult hits of a sort. Most have received excellent reviews.

I'm a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (www.the-efa.org).

My focus is not on grammar or spelling (not that I won't point out issues if they exist), but on the big-picture issues--character arc, logic, story development, conflict and tension, dialogue, and certainly emotional impact. And my job is not just to tell you what's wrong. It's my job to show you both what is working and what isn't working--and in the latter case, specifically why it isn't working, and what we can do to make it better. It's my job to make sure that you're in the very best possible position moving forward.

My editorial group is Ambitious Enterprises (http://ambitiousenterprises.com/). Between me and my colleague Ally, we have a collected quarter century of publishing experience, much of which you can find here:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

We also offer free phone consultations (http://ambitiousenterprises.com/contact/). That way, I'm not just some editor, and our would-be clients not just some writer.

I'm looking forward to talking with anyone who would like to.

message 25: by Mariah (new)

Mariah Butterfield | 1 comments Hello All!

I am Mariah. I am not a writer, but I love to read: novels, biographies, even textbooks!

Part of me believes that I should become a copy editor. I am curious about this unfulfilled ambition of mine be a copy editor, so if you're interested, help me give it a go!

I have no experience but I would be happy to read your book and bring to your attention anything that could use improvement. I'm detailed and logical and I am intensely satisfied when I help to perfect and polish documents and stories. All I would ask in return is that you allow me to use your book in my budding portfolio and recommend me to friends, so that maybe someday I can make a living out of this hobby!

Please leave me a reply if you'd like to get in contact with me, and maybe we can help each other out. Best of luck to all you incredible writers out there!
