Please post your general fiction recommendations here.

JG (The Introverted Reader) This heading is sort of hidden. I was wondering where the "regular" books belonged.

I have a bookshelf entitled "Strong Women" so this group seems perfect for me!

Under this heading, I would recommend:

Fair and Tender Ladies by Lee Smith
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
Hannah Coulter by Wendell Berry
Ahab's Wife: or the Star-Gazer by Sena Jeter Naslund
On Agate Hill by Lee Smith
The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver
Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All by Alan Gurganus

I absolutely love most of these books!

Katri (Valancy) | 4 comments There probably should be more that I ought to list here, but this one occurred to me now and I want to post it before I forget. Pomegranate Soup A Novel by Marsha Mehran is about three Iranian sisters who start a café in a North Irish village, and all three are quite delightful, lovely characters who I think qualify for this group. Plus, there are lots of delicious-seeming (haven't tried them yet) recipes in the book! There's also a sequel but I haven't read that yet.

Kimathy i would suggest in general for books with female leads, Uglies, Hunger Games, The Bar Code Tattoo, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Declaration, and, Peter And The Star Catchers (only because molly is such a strong young girl)
