Joseph Robbins (leer03) | 34 comments Usually I mark through my books - making notes, adding comments in the margins, and writing questions. Due to a heavy case load at work and papers due in my master classes, I speed through this book without taking notes, except for one passage:

"Such cowardly lack of willingness to engage in truth telling, even at the cost of social ills, is the fundamental characteristic of sentimental nihilism."

I took this passage as a democratic socialist, social worker, and citizen as "Don't be afraid to advocate!"

That's what I learned from this book and that was the only note that I added to my bent pages.

What did everyone else take away from Cornel West's writing?
