BEA 2014

At the August meeting Jasmine really got me thinking about the 2014 BEA. BEA 2013 was my very first time attending and visiting NYC. I went as a Power Reader and traveled via MegaBus. It was a blast and I would very much like to attend again. However, I'd rather make it a book club activity instead of dragging my poor husband again. There's excellent group rates, but of course it would be wise to wait until we're at least a few months closer to the date before making that leap. Any who do you plan to go in 2014? Have you ever attended BEA? Have you ever been to the big apple?

I wento BEA 2012, my one and only. Another blogger and I stayed in Brooklyn. She was able to go again this past June and ended up staying in a Quality Inn right across from Javits, which was good because she didn't have to get up as early as we did in 2012 to get to the city. I loved it when I went, despite the heat outside! I signed up as a blogger and we get to go for free, just have to pay to get there and to stay somewhere. We took a Megabus up as well, from White Marsh.

I've always wanted to go, but I think this happens when school is in session, and I can't take of work to go to it since I already have to take off for NCTE.

I would like to start planning a group outing to the BookExpo America (BEA). I want to make the motion of attending on Power Reader day, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Javits Center in New York City.

Here are step-by-step direction from Google maps. MTA Park and Ride is the destination. The first set is from 695 to the park & ride. Let me know if they make sense. I've never been to this stop, but I do know the Ikea is right behind it so I have some sort of a visual picture.

1. Head south on I-695 S
2. Take exit 40 to merge onto MD-151 S/​North Point Blvd
3. Make a U-turn at Trappe Rd
4. Merge onto I-695 N via the ramp on the left to Townson/​New York
5. Take exit 33B for Interstate 95 N toward New York
6. Merge onto I-95 N
7. Take exit 67A for MD-43/​White Marsh Blvd toward US-40 E
8. Keep left at the fork to continue toward MD-43 W/​Whitemarsh Blvd
9. Turn right onto MD-43 W/​Whitemarsh Blvd
10. Turn left onto Honeygo Blvd
11. Sharp right
Destination will be on the left

I just looked at the MegaBus website because I wanted to see the prices and they aren't showing a date that far ahead. Have you gotten your MegaBus ticket yet Katrina?

Ellon, I estimated that the 31st should be showing by the end of this month. I've also called customer service and they confirmed to keep checking back.

I also don't understand how to put a subject in a fax. Every time I've faxed something, I've just put in the number and the paper.

Hey Ellon, you can send it on Monday. Just add a cover sheet. On there you can write the subject and to Nellie. Do not fill out the business section. Just pencil in "power reader".I hope this helps.

I sent them an email saying, "I got an email subject line: Power Reader Update - ReedPOP Announces BookCon; but has not yet received my "Receipt for BookCon 2014" email. Also I am apart of a group of five and no one else in my group has gotten this email."

They responded right away to me. They sent my new barcode and also said, "If your coworkers have not yet received theirs have them email us and we would be more than happy to resend them all."

I think the return trip times really depend on if we want to grab dinner in the city before we leave and how much time we want to leave for dinner.

I will more than likely take the 6:20 departure from Baltimore. Departing hours don't matter to me. I think 9 or 10 is reasonable.
