Started today, but only 18% in....

Jon Recluse | 12043 comments Mod
That's okay.

I did 12%.

I have to admit that I was getting a little confused with the characters in the beginning, but I got quite a bit further into it today, and things are beginning to make more sense. :)

I was, too.
It did smooth out a bit, though. :)

How far are you, Jon?

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 5734 comments Mod
Okay, I've finished! I'll wait until I hear where you are, Jon, before commenting/rating. Or if anyone else wants to join in....... :)

Jon Recluse | 12043 comments Mod
I'm at 41%. I'll be finished soon!

Heidi Ward (battyward) | 103 comments I read this while I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago -- and I really got into it. This was my first Douglas Clegg book (except the little illustrated gem Isis). I hear it's his best? It's certainly really dark. Which I like. ;-) Looking forward to others' thoughts!

Without spoilers--yet--it was definitely NOT what I was expecting... I love when that happens! :)

I found a few others by Clegg on my paperback shelf that I haven't read yet....

Since I don't remember how to post spoilers here, I will echo what I said above: this story actually took me in a direction that I was NOT expecting. I love Clegg's style; his small town and the residents residing there were so easy to follow along with! The actual "nature" of the evil was a fresh take that I really enjoyed reading. My only (minor) complaint came towards the end...

Jon Recluse | 12043 comments Mod
I was also pleasantly surprised by this one. Several times.
Clegg's style is what made me a fan years ago.
The evil had a great original spin on tradition to it.
I think the book could have used a fresh edit. I felt there were bits that may have been grafted on, for length or publisher's request, that weren't woven in properly.

You have a good point, Jon. In the email I sent, I mentioned what was bothering me a bit, and having a few parts "woven in" better would have smoothed over the issues I had.

Jon Recluse | 12043 comments Mod
Better weaving would have helped.

Leaving those bits out would have been fine, too.

Still a great book.

Been a long time since a story surprised me. :)

Sorry I made you wait.
Things have been a little hectic around here.

Your insight is always worth the wait! School just started up here, so I had I bit of "extra" free time..... to bake snacks for the masses, of course!

Thank you! :)

SNACKS!
