Jay Howard (jay_howard) GROUP 16 - moderator Marie-Anne Mancio

START DATE: 07 September 2013

END DATE: 30 November 2013

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you don’t think you can manage to do 4 book reviews between these dates please let me know now. I will find someone else for this group and you will be able to choose a later group that will be more suitable for you. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. When the file is received, please post a GR link to the book in this thread so that the author has confirmation that reviewing of the correct book has started.

There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. All reviews must be posted by 30 November 2013.

When you have posted your review on GR please post a link to your review in this thread.

All reviews of 3, 4 or 5 stars must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and

If the rating is 1 or 2 stars, the review must be posted to GR but the author should be asked if they want the review to go to Amazon or not.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

In the next post are the listings for the 4 review rounds, the who reviews who stuff. You don’t have to put forward the same book for every round, but you can only ask for one review per round.

Happy reviewing, everyone :)

message 2: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap. ‘Sign in’ by pasting the GR link to the book you want reviewed, and start swapping books ready for round 1 once I’ve posted that we’re all signed in and there are no clashes needing a rearrangement of the order.

It frequently happens that despite expressing interest not all prospective members sign in to a group. It might also be the case that there are reviewing clashes – if so I’ll need to rearrange the review ordering. Please wait until I give the all clear and hand the group over to your group moderator. Thank you.

Tani Mura | 6 comments Signing in! This is the book I'd like reviewed: Kindreds: An Alliance of Bloods

message 5: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1703 comments Mod
Signing in! Those reviewing me have a choice:

A medieval/epic/dystopian fantasy,
(sorry, no elves)

or a contemporary, modern fantasy,
Cornerstone: Raising Rook
(sorry, no vampires or werewolves)

Your choice!

(In case you really don't like either of those, I'd be willing to offer my book of literary shorts, as well:
The Snow Deer and Other Stories)

message 6: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thank you, Tani and Kathy - you were there before I'd even finished sending all the messages!

Signing in (before I forget)--reviewers have a choice between a 300 page Chinese historical classic The Battle of Chibi (Red Cliffs) by Hock G. Tjoa
or a play set in early 20C China, 90 pages since the five act play went out of style
Heaven Is High and the Emperor Far Away, a Play by Hock G. Tjoa
just send me a PM.

message 12: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 31, 2013 11:44AM) (new)

Signing in with my first novel: Fade to Black

message 13: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, Hock and M.C.(do you want us to call you MC or by your first name?)

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Doesn't matter. I'll answer to either :) my first name is Marene.

message 15: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) That's a lovely name :)

message 16: by David (new)

David Santos (authordas) | 2 comments This is David checking in. This is the book I am tossing out there for this round

Forbidden Love: When 15 falls for 20

message 17: by Gloria (new)

Gloria Piper | 197 comments I'm tossing out a smorgasboard of my books and letting the reviewer choose which one to read. Train to Nowhere, a science fiction. I'll be putting out a new edition soon:
Finnegan's Quest, a metaphorical fantasy:

and Emperor's Hostages, a shapeshifter fantasy:

message 18: by Gloria (new)

Gloria Piper | 197 comments Oh, by the way, did you really mean to say all reviews must be posted by 29 June 2013?

message 19: by Wildchildeditor (new)

Wildchildeditor | 4 comments I have two. You can choose between Hieroglyphs and Last Chance.

message 20: by Samuel (new)

message 21: by Jay (last edited Aug 31, 2013 05:02PM) (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thank you, David, Gloria, Marci and Samuel.

And yes, Gloria - that was an 'oops!' moment - comes of adapting older files - about to edit it ;)

message 22: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) HENRY - are you going to get your author page up and give us the link please?

message 23: by Peter (new)

Peter Stone (sevensidedcube) Signing in, this is the one I would like reviewed:

message 24: by Eli (new)

Eli Kittim (eliofkittim) | 4 comments Since I'm not signing in for a review--for lack of time--may I sit in and quietly participate?

message 25: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, Peter :)

Eli - all members are welcome throughout this forum. Have a good look round as there are plenty of discussion threads that might interest you. If you have just a little time you might like to consider picking up the group's charity anthology
Of Words and Water by Ali Isaac

It's free on Smashwords (all formats)

and for Kindle from Amazon (in the USA)

or any of the other major ebook sites. A review would be very helpful, and tell all your friends to pick up a copy.

message 26: by Franca (new)

Franca Pelaccia (francapelaccia) Sounds great! I have only one book available for review.
The Witch's Salvation

message 27: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, Francesca :)

That just leaves Jo, Robert and Henry to check in before we're ready to go.

message 28: by Gloria (new)

Gloria Piper | 197 comments Has Marci checked in? She's up to review my book in Round 1.

message 29: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Yes, Gloria - Marci is wildchildeditor - but don't go swapping books yet. There are still 3 members due to check in and if they don't some shuffling will be needed so Marci may not be your round 1 draw.

message 30: by Jo Grix (last edited Sep 01, 2013 01:28PM) (new)

Jo Grix | 4 comments Apparently, Good Reads decided not to forward my PMs to my email while I was out of town. Sorry guys, I've been away from the laptop at my grandparents'.

The book I'd like reviewed is a fantasy novella: A Prince's Pride and I have a coupon for it on Smashwords...

The other option is a murder mystery: A Killer Best Friend, and I can send a .pdf or make a coupon on Smashwords. (But I'm working on a rewrite of it for reasons, so I'm not sure a review before the editing is done would be a wise move, but your choice.)

message 31: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, Jo :)

So, just 2 to go...

message 32: by Robert (new)

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 7 comments Signing in!

I have three, so people can feel free to take their pick.

Sorry I jumped the gun. I am really glad it did not result in extra work for you (that I can see). If it did, I am very very sorry.

message 37: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Hello, Henry, pleased you made it in the end.

OK, folks, you're now all signed in and the ordering stands as it was first posted.

Please note that from this point on I won't be around for this group. If you have questions try posting here first and help each other out. If you're still stuck your group moderator, Marie-Anne Mancio, will be checking regularly how things are going.

I hope you all enjoy it.

I've friend-requested both my reviewer and reviewee in Round 1...

message 39: by Marie-Anne (new)

Marie-Anne Mancio (hotelalphabet) | 139 comments Welcome everyone. Looking forward to reading all your reviews. And for the superfast readers, I second Jay's request for reviews for our charity anthology. As with everything else, you don't have to be nice if you don't like it, just be contructive.
