OK great! I'll start this as soon as I finish Origin. I'm a little over halfway through now.

I don't know if you've ever done a buddy read before, but it's pretty simple and there aren't many rules. Just post what chapter you are on when you comment and if you are writing about anything important to the story that would ruin it for everyone else, just use spoilers. To use spoilers you just type spoiler with <> around it at the beginning of the comment and /spoiler with <> around it at the end of the comment.

Hi guys- I ahve read through chapter three and am new at the buddy read 'system' so I will just give it a go;)
I continue to feel like I felt at the end of the first book- How did they ever think they were going to slip Diana into the 16th century and think she'd fit in?! I'm sure it is a historian's dream to experience the events he/she spends their career researching but wow! You go from the northeast to the midwest and people are asking where you're from! Of course if they realized it would be impossible for her to fit in then we wouldn't have a book to read- and I really do like it.
I did Google Matthew's friends- The School Of Night- to brush up on their biographies. I enjoy how she incorporated this historical fiction into the supernatural genre. I am not enjoying Kit's whiney behavior. He is acting like a jealous teenager and simply mean to Diana, which she surprisingly tolerates since it is the way women are treated in Elizabethen London I suppose.
But boy is Matthew happy here! I could sense his longing for this time and place in the first book- should be interesting.
And I have a feeling Marlowe is going to be more than a thorn in their side- I don't like or trust him!

Hey guys! I just finished the second chapter. I hate Kit already too. I love how the history is intertwined in the story, even more than the first book. I can't wait for them to run into Shakespeare. I'm really glad that this isn't coming easily to Diana. It wouldn't be realistic if it did... not that time travel is realistic. :-)

I just finished chapter 6... Wow! So much happened since I posted last!

(view spoiler)[I was wondering what would happen if Matthew would run into himself, but I guess we don't have to worry about that since he just disappeared when they came back.

I'm so glad that Matthew sent Kit away. He was so annoying. I get that he was jealous, but he was completely ridiculous. He knew that they were from the future, so I don't understand why he was acting the way he was. They aren't going to stay there forever. The real Matthew of that time will be back eventually and everything will return to normal for him.

And now they are headed to see Matthew's father. That should be interesting. I feel like Matthew is happier in this time period, but he was acting strange. It's almost like he really took on the mind frame of the time and was being kind of cold with Diane. Maybe it's because he's still trying to keep so many secrets. I wonder what else she still doesn't know about him. (hide spoiler)]

I'm really enjoying this so far. I just wish I had more time to devote to it right now. How far are you?

I am through 7 and love it as well. So glad they're off to Sept Tours to see Philippe- very interesting!
I am done with my other reading challenge group now so will be more focused on this one..

She seems very determined to be his mate, but I think maybe she should know all of his secrets first. Especially since there is no way out of it and that whole part about him being completely focused on her doesn't sound like fun. It sounds suffocating. And I feel like we have just started to learn his secrets. He's lived a LONG time and hasn't told her ANYTHING!

Oh, yeah... and I don't trust Philippe at all! He is definitely up to something. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I guess I'm not surprised at how fast Kit turned on them- at least Diana. I am surprised at how tolerant Matthew was with this betrayel. He seems a little 'softer' to me in this time. It is going to be close to torture I think when he has to deal with seeing Philippe after knowing what a horrible end comes to his father. How will he handle this secret? Not that he's not used to keeping them;) I wonder how much their time travel will influence the future they come back to?? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I really liked the scene in the church. I know some people think that the descriptions in these books can be a bit much, but I absolutely love it. Her description of the church made me feel like I was there. And Matthew's story was devastating. I really wish he would open up to her more. I felt bad for her when she was comparing herself to Blanca. I think he was a completely different person then though. He has been through so much that he can't just be carefree and go wherever his heart takes him. He does care about her, but he doesn't want to trap her or have her regret the decision later. I understand, but it still sucks.

I just got to the point in chapter 11 where Diana sneaks into the hay barn and sees Matthew and Philippe fighting. What a strange relationship they have. (hide spoiler)]

And about your spoiler. I wonder how much of the present we'll see in this book. I think they'll probably come back at the end of this one and the repercussions of their actions in the past will be hashed out in the final book of the trilogy.

The one thing I keep thinking about is how many people he is introducing Diana to as his wife. So what happens when the Matthew of that time comes back and has no idea he ever had a wife and the wife is nowhere to be found??? Seems like that would raise a few questions.

I was thinking that too! And where exactly is that Matthew since they can't both exist?! What the heck is he going to think when he 'returns' and everyone wonders where the wife is!

What if they switched and he's in present day? That would be awkward. I'm sure it would be much more difficult for him to adjust to present day. At least Diana is an historian and knows all about the past. But that's probably not where he is.

Hey guys! I'm in the middle of chapter 22 now. There is so much cool stuff happening in it.

(view spoiler)[Well, first of all, when they were talking about whether or not she would be able to have a child with Matthew and they didn't really think that it was possible and she made the decision not to take any precautions against it, I knew she would get pregnant right away. So that wasn't a big shock, but I think it will take the story in an interesting direction. I wonder how long they will be stuck in the past. Matthew only wants to give her 7 weeks to figure out how to get them back, but it's not like she's trying to delay going back to the present. They don't seem to be spending a whole lot of energy looking for Ashmole 782 though. They are looking for witches to train Diana, and maybe they think that once she has her full power and knows how to use it then she will be able to find the book easier.

I love how she uses her magic. It's like she can just make things happen just by thinking about them really hard. The scene where she made the insects and snake come alive on Mary's shoes was so cool. And then the part where she is supposed to crack the egg and put it in the bowl without using her hands and instead she starts thinking about how the egg could have been a chick if it wasn't taken from the hen and then it just hatched. I can't wait until she starts actually working with Goody Alsop and see what she can really do.

I thought it was interesting that Susanna is actually a distant relative of Sophie from the first book. I wonder how the two lockets are going to affect the future. There have been a few interesting things happening already that have been affected from their time travel. Like that girl that found Diana's journal and the part where Ysabeau sends Marcus to buy their lockets and he asks that girl out on a date. (hide spoiler)]

I'm sure that there are things that I'm forgetting, but there is just so much that I want to discuss... How far are you into it?

Hello there- I'm in the middle of 25 but wanted to update.
(view spoiler)[ At first I was a little irritated that she got pregnant immediately- slthough Icould tell she was going to. But I was shocked when she lost the baby! Didn't see that coming! Obviously NOT the best time to be pregnant but very sad..
I love that she has a 'girlfriend' in Mary and enjoy all their experiments- especially the tree! Poor mary doesn't know she's a witch (yet) right?
i am really enjoying the witches and the weaving process- and the Firedrake! Glad she found a disguising spell- I have a feeling she's going to need it as the witch inquisition appears to be in her future, I think!
I am also worried about the two 'orphans' she has taken on when she leaves. I wonder if they'll stay behind with Pierre, who seems to love them, or somehow come 'back' with her to the present time? Probably they'll have to behind,... (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

I'm on chapter 27 now...

(view spoiler)[I didn't see her losing the baby either. I feel like we don't know everything about Mary. The conversation she had with Diana about her pregnancy the day she miscarried was strange. It almost seemed like she knew it was going to happen, or possibly caused it to happen. She just assumed that it wasn't Matthew's. And when they had to go see Elizabeth, she just showed up to help her get ready and appeared to call in her favor so that Diana was able to go to Prague with Matthew. Now that they had to leave, who's going to help Diana with her magic.

I don't think that they'll be able to take Anna and Jack back with them. I think she's going to have a hard enough time as it is getting them back one piece.

Chapter 26 was strange. It seems like they are causing issues in the present with what they are doing in the past. And it seems like Philippe warned some family members that this was going to happen and they all just thought that it was part of his madness. (hide spoiler)]

I'm just starting Chapter 39...

(view spoiler)[Well, I definitely didn't expect them to run into her father! I'm glad that she's pregnant again too. I hope it works out this time. I was shocked that they have been in the past for seven months! It didn't seem like it had been that long. I was glad that her father brought up the fact that they are really messing with the future. I still don't understand what is going to happen when people start asking the real Matthew about his wife and he has no idea what they are talking about. I can't believe that they finally found Ashmole 782 and still lost the first three pages. Maybe the book just wasn't meant to stay intact. And her dad says that she definitely can't take it back with her anyway. I wonder if she is going to anyway and what the consequences would be if she did. I really like her dad and I'm glad that we got to get to know him a little bit. I completely understand why he left the way he did. She never would have wanted to let him go.

Oh, and I'm glad that her dad made them go have a night of fun. They have never really done anything just for fun. They are always so serious. (hide spoiler)]

I thought it was just me. I don't think they ever said. I think we'll find out in the next book. The first one ended with Diana time travelling and she doesn't know that she's dead. So I'm assuming something happened and that is why they are all at Sept Tours. But if that was in the first book, I don't remember it. It has been a while, but I think I would remember that!

I think we are correct and the reader doesn't know anythng yet- what a cliff hanger! Probably something to do with nasty Peter Knox! He was up to something that we didn't really get to see- and planning a raid on Sept Tours. Looks like the war will begin in book 3!
I am interested to see how much their tampering messed with the future- like Stephen said, they were there for way too long! I loved how they brought him in at the end- He couldn't have coincidentally shown up just at that time and place?! She needed to speak to him etc. I really like how the author researched the time and really made us feel like we were there.
Looking forward to book three- do you know when it will be out??

The third book doesn't come out till sometime next year. They haven't even set a date yet. :(
