We have a thread to talk about movies so I thought I'd add one for TV, doesn't have to be adaptations but I thought that could be the primary focus.

TV adaptation include;
Orange is the New Black
Dexter
Game of Thrones
Pretty Little Liars
Hannibal
Gossip Girl
Friday Night Lights
Justified
Under the Dome
Haven
Tales of the City
I, Claudius
Brideshead Revisited
Roots
Roswell
Sex and the City
M*A*S*H

Richard Dexter - not read the books but the show bored me after 5 episodes

Game of Thrones - everything wrong with the books is writ large in the show. unwatchable

Hannibal - started so well but then around episode 6 just became a serial killer pantomime

Justified - sleek, very cool and very amusing

Under the Dome - better than the book but the characters come across as even sillier on screen. it was far from Kings best

Brideshead Revisited - the book was something of a toothache for me so i've never seen the series

i'd add Bleak House, not seen it yet but loved the book and i hear the show is cracking

I'd have to give a high recommendation for the Bleak House miniseries, especially if you liked the novel (Andrew Davies version from a few years back). I thought it was so well produced and handled, and Bleak House is one of my favorite books by Dickens. Gillian Anderson (Scully from X-Files) is Lady Dedlock, and does a good job with the role. The casting is pretty stellar in many ways. I believe it instant viewing on netflix, if you happen to do that.

I would like to hear people's thoughts on a couple more tv adaptations....

Call the Midwife
Pride and Prejudice
David Copperfield
True Blood
Vampire Diaries

Call the Midwife- very good, and compelling
Pride and Prejudice- perfect. Colin Firth is the quintessential Mr. Darcy
David Copperfield- a good rendition of Charles Dickens
True Blood- SO different from the books, but still pretty entertaining
Vampire Diaries- far too full of teen vampire angst for me
