Ryan | 28 comments I just finished re-reading The Law by Bastiat, and would like to know what everyone else thinks of his ideas on the power of government, taxes as legalized theft, socialism, and in general how he saw society.

Lynn (dwell_ondreams) I've never read that, but it sounds very interesting. I'll have to check it out. :)

Arminius I also never read it. It sounds very good. But to add to the post, I tell you what I think.

The power of government is should be limited to protecting the country, foreign affairs and treaties, interstate highways and enforcing the constitution.

Taxes- should be the lowest possible because you will get the best economy as a result that way.

Socialism -kills ingenuity. You will lose innovation and new technology because of it.

I wonder if Bastiat feels the same way or how anyone else here feels.
