Adriana | 3888 comments September's Labor Day Mini Challenge
Duration: September 1 - 30, 2013

Labor day falls on the second day of September. In the US, it's the day we celebrate what everyday workers do for the well being of their country.

1. Read a book that highlights a particular worker (teacher, doctor, writer, etc).

2. Read a book in which someone achieves his or her career goal.

3. Read a book where a parent or guardian is a workaholic.

4. Read a book that has a character that does either what you do or what you dream to do.

5. Labor Day also marks the official last day of summer, so read a book you've been dying to read all summer but haven't gotten to it yet.

-----

Jodi will be the leader for this challenge. Thank you, Jodi!

I have you for two Jackie. Maybe it is the / that makes it look like a one, or both Zara above you and Sarah below you both want one. You may have looked at the wrong name. I do have you for two though. Thanks for checking.

Megan (lahairoi) | 6669 comments Completed #1 - Particular Worker - Barmaid/Waitress - From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris. I'm really liking where the storyline is going and the explanations the author is providing for occurrences earlier in the series. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars

message 36: by Megan, Challenges (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 6669 comments Completed #3 - Workaholic - The Secret River by Kate Grenville. Main character spends every waking moment working to help his family to survive. I appreciated the history presented in this book. However, I felt that there was a big build-up without a big result. The book ended rather quietly. Written well. Worth reading but probably won't continue the series. 3 stars

Only one more to go Adriana! Way to go :)

message 43: by Megan, Challenges (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 6669 comments Completed #2 - Career goal - Song of Renewal by Emily Sue Harvey. All three main characters gave up on their dreams when the narrative begins. Only through their struggles were they able to achieve their ultimate careers. 3.5 stars. Poignant story that explores one couple's marital problems during their child's medical crisis. Well-written but almost too many miseries to be addressed purposefully in a single book. Also, while I appreciated the author's mention of faith, it seemed to come too late in the book. Overall, good first novel

4/3
