Fran | 10997 comments Looking forward to reading this one in September!

Although it is technically the second in the series, it is a stand-alone. So even if you haven't read the first one in the series you can still read this one with us with no problem :)

message 2: by Breann (new)

Breann | 0 comments I wasn't a fan of the first one but I'll definitely read this. I need a musical instrument for another challenge :D

MountainKat | 19601 comments Thanks Fran for the tips about the freebies! I got the second, but missed the first - although they let me have it for free today too. Don't know if it was because I followed the link or not, but worth a shot!

Anyway, I finished The Melody Thief today! I really liked it! It was a nice feel good read, no over the top drama and no emotional angst. Worked for me! =)

Fran | 10997 comments *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

I started The Melody Thief (Blue Notes, #2) by Shira Anthony last night. I'm only at about 20%. Boy, that Cary/Connor is a real mess. I waver between wanting to curse his Mom out from the grave and/or slap him silly. Antonio sure looks like the perfect guy right now, I want to kick Cary's butt and tell him to pull himself together, LOL.

Give it time, your impressions will change... (Those were my first thoughts too!)

Fran, I'm sure if you make it there from NY and Jane all the way from Australia, I could figure out a way to get there, too! :D

Oh, she's not that far - she could make it I'm sure! =D She couldn't be further than Jane anyway!

message 36: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (PS) | 19613 comments LOL! That's right! We'll kick her bot if she doesn't come if/when we pull this off ;)

That is where I thought you were, but I wasn't sure. And yes you are closer than all the rest!

message 40: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (PS) | 19613 comments LOL - it reminds me of Twilight. Didn't Bella move from Breann's Tucson to Karen's Seattlie area??!

message 41: by Breann (new)

Breann | 0 comments I think it was Phoenix, but close :D

Jane (PS) | 19613 comments Oh well, same states. You get the vibe :)

message 43: by Breann (new)

Breann | 0 comments You know you're geography! Hell, I don't even know if Australia HAS states, let alone what cities are in them.

~KarenH~ | 6903 comments Jane (PS) wrote: "Oh well, same states. You get the vibe :)"

It's kind of the same thing up here - Forks is a tiny town on the Olympic Peninsula and I'm closer to the Canadian border than I am to Seattle (although not by much), but most people consider anything in the northwest quarter of the state the Seattle area. :D

Jane (PS) | 19613 comments Breann wrote: "You know you're geography! Hell, I don't even know if Australia HAS states, let alone what cities are in them."

LOL! Well, I've been to the US before, specifically the west coast and through the middle. I haven't been to the east coast yet, so I'm hazier on that side ;)

And for your knowledge Breann, Australia has 6 states (Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales) and 2 territories (Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory). As you can see, they were pretty creative when they came up with our names back in late 1800s, early 1900s!!! I'm in Queensland - the BEST state! ;)

I couldn't remember 'Forks' and I knew you weren't there anyway... Maybe I should have just said Oregon :)

message 47: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

~KarenH~ | 6903 comments Wow, with all this discussion of travel and parties, I forgot to mention that I actually finished the book! Really liked it a lot - it was nice to see problems that in so many romance novels would lead to major drama being handled more realistically for a change. Loved the characters too, and it was great to watch Cary's transformation. I'm really looking forward to more from this author. :D

~KarenH~ | 6903 comments Jane (PS) wrote: "I couldn't remember 'Forks' and I knew you weren't there anyway... Maybe I should have just said Oregon :)"

I knew what you meant - and thank goodness I don't live in Forks...we get about 3 times as much rain as Seattle does, and Forks makes us look like the sun belt! I don't know that they get as much rain as we do, but it's cloudy and/or foggy ALL THE TIME...they get something ridiculous like 10 sunny days a year - no thanks! I think we've had that many just this month, and it's only the 12th! :D

message 49: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (PS) | 19613 comments And meanwhile we are really ready for a bit of rain :) ...It's even getting hot here - 30c/87F... I think winter is pretty much over!

message 50: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

~KarenH~ | 6903 comments They're telling us summer's pretty much over here, even though we've been in the 80s the last couple of days. It's supposed to be raining by Sunday though, so I think I need to get out and get some of the summer stuff put away, just in case we don't see the sun again until sometime next year! :D
