My mom thought it was disturbing. I went with my friend who also read TMI & TID so we knew everything but they knew nothing. But that was bad considering the differences.

Ewa... | 118 comments I thought everything about the movie was bad, the camera work, the scenes(the Institute looked horrible), some of the actors/acting was crap(I had high hopes for Jace and Magnus also did anyone think the ending was freaky and illogical), the songs that just came on at random points was weird and killed the moment, at the end of the movie I wanted to kill the director. Now when I see movie trailers or movies based off of killer books my mind screams that they should have got that person to make CoB. But the changes between the book and movie were the worst part of all. I the way they changed everything made the plot hard to fallow and confusing, they can't make CoA with the ending the people made in CoB. I am now planing to remake CoB with a different cast and crew in 20 years or so.

Katherine (xKatherine) | 35 comments DONT READ IF YOU DIDINT SAW THE MOVIE OR READ THE BOOKS!!! SPOILERS!!!
I dont know why you guys loved the movie so much. Not that i am saying that I hated the movie but it wasn't that great. I liked the books more than the movie. I mean it's more fun. Simon is a rat, Jace has a vampire motorcycle thing and valentine has the cup in the books! That means that it was more exiting! The movie was like okey they got the cup back and this movie is going to end. Because of the movie I didn't like simon I don't know why either... But I did liked the Hotel Dumort scene the fighting was so funny... I hope you didn't read it if you haven't saw the movie or read the books...

Elizabeth Tauber | 2 comments I liked the movie but I felt as though it could have been better. It's not my favorite and I like the book way better but all in all it's pretty good.

Char Stone | 151 comments I watched the movie before I read the book and absolutely LOVED it, but now, after reading it, I find it's not as easy to follow, they include bits that just don't make sense to me.

For example, Why does valentine try to get clary to drink from the mortal cup?

I still like the book, but there's deffinately room for improvement, I hope the next one is better.

message 58: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) Okay. Well these books both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, are my default fandoms. I can't wait for CoHF and The Dark Artifices.
But when I watched City of Bones, don't get me wrong it was a great film. However, I was disappointed with how warped the ending was, as oppose to in the book. The book ending was better, and linked into City of Ashes better too!
Like with Hodge taking off our of the institute, the fight at Renwicks, Valentine going through the mirror to Idris.
City of Ashes won't be the same, Jace got the piece of the mirror in the first book, but in the movie there's no sign of it. So how that links in with the second movie and the inquisitor taking it off him ect.
Then with Hodge not disappearing, how the hell is that going to pan out?!

I missed Simin turning into a rat too! And they showed him turning into a vampire too early! :(

Courtney | 10 comments I do like the movie, though its completely wrong by the book! The book was so good, why they changed it i dont know. I think they casted clary and jace well, but they needed to make clarys hair reder and give her green contacts. Pet hate: valentine has black hair! He is suppose to be blonde! How far from a colour blonde can you get. Two they made the movie based on the valentine fight scene, and they put it in the institute.... It wasnt Even based there. Plus the ending is all wrong , rant over aha, i do like it because of they casted well ( minus costume and looks wise)

message 60: by Chloe Jane (new)

Chloe Jane | 13 comments I loved both! Obviously the books have a special place in my heart and I'll always like them better, but I still liked the movie.. and I absolutely loved the cast!

message 61: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I hated the ending to the movie and how much it was warped from the book. I agree about how it pretty much built up to the fight that WASN'T even meant to happen with Valentine in the Institute.
What I don't get is how will they be able to make CoA? Because Hodge flees in the book, but in the movie he stayed in the institute.
Things like that will make CoA different from its book too :/
Plus I don't think they can show that much gore, due to what happens in CoA. So one of the main bits of it, will be dampened down for audiences :(

The casting is great, especially Magnus & Alec, they are like they've been pulled straight from the pages. :)
But Valentine! He's not meant to look like a gay pirate in leather!
He's suppose to have blonde/white hair and suited! :(

message 62: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I have watched the movie and it has grown on me. However let's face it..... it wasn't good. Jace and Clary are ok but Valentine and Alex are all wrong and Simon to I think. Not to mention the story. Bad. I hope if they do the next book they get a new screen writer and director.

message 63: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (hayley_202) | 1 comments Yeah I think it was pretty good, but if I hadn't read the books before I probably would have been confused. Omg yes Valentines casting was really bad! I think the rest of the characters were right though. My favourite thing from the movie is definately the institute!! It's like exactly how I pictured it:D

message 64: by Rachael (new)

Rachael | 73 comments I just finished re-reading City of Bones yesterday. I can't quite believe how much they missed out, or should I say, I had forgotten how much they'd missed out until refreshing my memory. I was reading thinking, "I can't believe they didn't put that in," or, "Wow, that would have been awesome on the big screen."
Anyway, I am trying to watch the films as if they are not connected to my favourite books because, otherwise, they're just ruined..

message 65: by Allison (new)

Allison K. | 53 comments Dear movie Jace, please cut your hair.
Dear movie Clary, get green contacts or something.
Dear movie Valentine, no...just no.
Dear movie Isabelle, you are perfect, you stay like that

agreed! Valentine I didn't even know that was supposed to be him. I was like "Who is that random scary looking guy?!"

OH MAH GOSH!! IKR?!? The movie made me sooo mad!!

message 70: by Ria (new)

Ria | 55 comments One of the worst book to movie adaptions by far. They totally butchered the books reputation with that poorly made film. It just goes to show that you can't rush a YA book to movie adaptions. Don't know why directors still do it though, it'll pay off in the long run.

message 71: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Tauber | 2 comments The movie is all right by itself but compared to the book it fails to exceed. What bothers me are the minor details that could have easily been changed to how it's supposed to be. I wish they put more effort into it. This movie had such great potential.

message 72: by Laura (new)

Laura | 70 comments I didn't think it was terrible but could've been so so so much better! I didn't really like the casting, I don't think they suited their characters (looks and personalities)and it was made way too hollywood and lame! Book was amazing so the movie was a letdown but I still kind of hope they'll make the second one and redeem themselves!

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't like because the idea of an adaptation is to transmit the same feeling that you felt in the book even if the movie it isn't exactly like the book. And honestly I don't think the movie do that.

message 74: by Thirrin (new)

Thirrin Lindenshield | 8 comments I think the movie sucked.

message 75: by Veronica (new)

Veronica I haven't seen it, but I heard it was nothing like the book.

message 76: by Valentina (new)

Valentina (valencosta) I didn't imagine Jemima West as Isabelle and Adain Turner as Luke... But I really like Lily playing Clary, Jamie as Jace, Robert as Simon, Kevin as Alec and Godfrey as Magnus. They are perfect for the papers. I have to say that Jamie and Lily had a spark.
Talking about the entire movie... It wasn't a good adapt, I only like it because some of the actors. The institute as Valentine's castle? The book doesn't say that. Simon in all of the principal adventures? He had appeared later, when Clary and Jace went to Luke's house. And the cup? Yeah, Valentine finally left them and get the cup with him.
There are some aspects that I didn't really like but some that I did. I have yo admit that I watched this film so much times and I still doing it.

message 77: by April (new)

April | 13 comments They didn't add the rat scene. I so would have love to see that. Its only mentioned as deleted scene. Valentine doesn't get away with the cup in the movie as he does in the book. Jace at the end stands his ground while in the movie, but not so much in the book.

message 78: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1 comments Comparing the book with the movie for me the movie sucks. I didn't understand it well the first time I saw it. It was kind of complicated and didn't explain well the things that really happens on the book. I know lot of you like it and I respect you opinion but for me wasn't good.

message 79: by Alyson (new)

Alyson Stone (alysonserenastone) | 281 comments I kind of did like the movie. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but it wasn't bad.

message 80: by Liv (new)

Liv Grey (TeenBookLover) | 13 comments I didn't love the movie, but looking back at it, the casting was pretty darn perfect. Especially comparing to the TV show. I'm trying not to hate it, since that's the only new dough right now, but it's hard for me not too.

DarkAurora | 58 comments I didn't like it,I thought that the book was way better.the film didn't do the book enough justice,I just felt it like it didn't fit well....
If that makes sense.....

message 83: by s.shadereads (new)

s.shadereads I enjoyed the movie for entertainment purposes but in comparison to the books no way. In my opinion I didn't feel like any of the actors, except for Simon, fit the characters from the books. TMI is one of my favorite series and maybe I expected too much from the movie to really enjoy it, it just didn't live up to my expectations.
