Angel (mnemosyne) | 48 comments There's an author entry for the name "James." Unfortunately, all sorts of books by varying authors with either the first or last name of James are stuffed in there. Anyone with some time want to start attaching the full author names to some of these books? (Just make sure not to change the name on the author profile until all the books in there are by the same author, of course.)

Debbie Moorhouse Okay, King James and Henry James and Brother James and co are now all separated from James & James!

Go, Squirrel! :)

Jessica | 69 comments Similarly, there is a "Smith" author profile: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I started to separate out various Smiths, but only got so far. If someone wants to take a stab at it, that would be great!

Anna | 22 comments I've gotten as far as "Na..." ("Name all the animals" was the last one I fixed until the good ol' "unexpected error" happened. A lot of the Smith-books are added in Amazon as having "Smith" as an author. Quite a prolific person, having done both the "ET picture book" and "Applied Calculus" before moving on to some manual on how to play tennis ;)

That is how most of the single-name authors were added into the system. They were just imported directly from Amazon, which brings me to something that I wanted to mention before. If you see something listed incorrectly on Amazon, they now have a link on the product's page that says "update product info." You can submit a correction to an author or title (or many other things) using this feature. When I fix something here, I also submit a fix for Amazon. Might as well help them with their database too.

While working on some of the "Smith"s, I found some more single-name authors that need a little work too.

Debbie Moorhouse It's hard to find names for some of these Smiths!

message 8: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Moorhouse Gah, recently spent 20 minutes identifying ONE Smith.

This could take forever!

But doesn't it feel satisfying? ;)

Good for you for working so hard on it!

message 10: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Moorhouse Heh, it would feel more satisfying if there weren't still 10 "Smith" books extant.

One of them has a cover picture. So I went to Amazon.com, found the book, clicked on "enlarge image", and saw, on the book cover...

SMITH.

I kid you not.

Ok, ok, I'll help! ;)

Ah! They're actually lying. It's a cram-guide to a book by Smith (Dayle M. Smith, as it happens). I dubbed their anonymous author with the name of the publisher.

There is one Smith left. The publisher has been purchased (and neither the old site nor the new recognizes the ISBN) and the title is so abbreviated I can't guess what it might be.

If anyone can find it, they deserve some kind of award. :D

Monissa | 20 comments I'd vote for "Cases and Applications in dBASE III Plus" by David Glenn Smith

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28...

In the process of finding that, I've managed to add MORE under the 'Smith' name.

I'm impressed! That certainly looks like a match. :)
