Elmore Leonard just passed away today. I loved his usage of dialogue and his writing reminds me of the late Ross Thomas's style.

Thanks for the written works Mr. Leonard, you will be missed.

Rob Johnson (rob_johnson) | 32 comments Very sad news. As a writer and reader myself, he was a particular hero of mine. These are just two of his Ten Rules of Writing that I try to adhere to myself:

“I try to leave out the parts that readers skip.”

“If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.”

For the other rules, see: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/07/16/arts/writers-writing-easy-adverbs-exclamation-points-especially-hooptedoodle.html

Don Satalic (donsatalic) | 135 comments Thanks, Rob, for the link.

Leonard hand wrote the first draft of all his novels. There is something magical and mysterious about the hand-mind connection.
