This upcoming read will be my first Atwood. I have had the obvious choice (Handmaid's Tale) planned, but this group read will come first.

Sean wrote: "This upcoming read will be my first Atwood. A few days ago I started Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar, which I received as a Christmas gift. It's quite the think piece; I believe I will be reading it fairly slowly.
Just started Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell. I had planned to start the monthly read but it has not arrived yet. I may be reading them simultaneously
Just started 'Silas Marner' by George Eliot. It was her favourite of the novels she'd written. As I loved 'Middlemarch' and 'The Mill on the Floss', I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to this. :)
Pamela wrote: "Dracula. Can't believe I've never read this!"I enjoyed reading it a few years back and also could not believe I had not never read it. Like the letter format.
I started today in a Dutch copy of The Reader (De voorlezer). I've only read about a quarter of the book but is very good so far.
I'm listening to I Ching: The Essential Translation of the Ancient Chinese Oracle and Book of Wisdom

I love that reason. This was a fun post. Now to do all those other things...

After you're done with Robinson Crusoe you should read Foe by Coetzee. It's based on RC. I read it this year and I didn't quite get it, but it's been decades since I'd read Crusoe..."
I will add it to my list of books to read sooner than later... Looks interesting.

Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood arrived today. So I started that one and relegated Robinson Crusoe to Audiobook format. It's almost over so I will finish it off during my commutes.

Started listening to Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe and started reading Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood.

I read that as well as all the Hesse novels many years ago. Nice treatment of the life of Buddha.
Jake wrote: "I read that as well as all the Hesse novels many years ago. Nice treatment of the life of Buddha."Yes it was. I enjoyed it. 😊
A Room with a View by E.M. Forster. I have not seen the movie nor read the book. I'm a clean slate on this one.
Mercedes wrote: "Pale FireI started it last night. The foreword is hilarious!"
Clicked on the link to see what edition you were talking about and it turns out I have the same one, so I have something to look forward to when I get around to reading it 🙂

I have it on my list for later this year also. I noticed there's an audiobook on YouTube and it includes the (36 min) forward.

Sarah, how many of the "1001" books have you read now?

Started Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov. I feel as though this is a book I ought to like more than I am up to this point.

Having read Pale Fire, I would not recommend listening to it as an audiobook. There is the main story and then all the footnotes. You can read it two ways -- (1) straight through or (2) referencing the footnotes as you read the story. Either way would be difficult with an audiobook!
