This upcoming read will be my first Atwood. I have had the obvious choice (Handmaid's Tale) planned, but this group read will come first.

I've already read Alias Grace and although it is completely different from The Handmaid's Tale, set in the past, for instance, not in the (near) future, it is a very good book, so I doubt you'll regret reading it as your first Margaret Atwood 🙂

A few days ago I started Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar, which I received as a Christmas gift. It's quite the think piece; I believe I will be reading it fairly slowly.

I enjoyed reading it a few years back and also could not believe I had not never read it. Like the letter format.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I started today in a Dutch copy of The Reader (De voorlezer). I've only read about a quarter of the book but is very good so far.

After you're done with Robinson Crusoe you should read Foe by Coetzee. It's based on RC. I read it this year and I didn't quite get it, but it's been decades since I'd read Crusoe..."

I will add it to my list of books to read sooner than later... Looks interesting.

Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood arrived today. So I started that one and relegated Robinson Crusoe to Audiobook format. It's almost over so I will finish it off during my commutes.

I did Robinson Crusoe on audio and I am very glad I did. I'm sure the accent was much more understandable that way.

I have it on my list for later this year also. I noticed there's an audiobook on YouTube and it includes the (36 min) forward.

Having read Pale Fire, I would not recommend listening to it as an audiobook. There is the main story and then all the footnotes. You can read it two ways -- (1) straight through or (2) referencing the footnotes as you read the story. Either way would be difficult with an audiobook!
