The Reader by Schlink of Germany. I'm getting an early start on the Feb book for "1001 Books..." group.
I started The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt a few weeks ago, and it’s taking me longer to read because if I learned anything from reading her other book, The Secret History, I will remain more invested in the story if I break it up and read other quick books in between because if not, I am going to hate read, and I really don’t want to hate read a book in 2019 if I can help it.

I loved the Goldfinch, but, like you, it took me a long time to read it and I was reading other books at the same time.

Diane wrote: "The Enchanted Wanderer: Selected Tales by Nikolai Leskov."I thought those were pretty good--I liked the story Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk especially. It wasn't too long after reading Leskov that I read a selection of Tolstoy's stories--they reminded me a lot of one another, though I have to say that I enjoyed Tolstoy's more
I recently (a few weeks ago) started Jane Eyre. It's my bedtime book so I'm reading it pretty slowly. It's following up a string of Jane Austen books, and I'm surprised by how much easier I'm finding it! Not that Jane Austen is particularly difficult reading, but Jane Eyre practically reads like a modern novel. I'm really enjoying it.

I've heard several people talking about it. I'm definitely going to give it a try
Starting Howards End by E. M. Forster. Curious that there's no apostrophe in Howards. It's one of the Feb books for "Catching Up With Classics" group. I've seen the film with the dream cast of Emma Thompson, Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter and it was very good.
George, there is also a new miniseries recording by BBC (2017/2018) of Howards End that was excellent as well in case you haven’t seen that.

I enjoyed both. Hope you like them. :-)

I started The Goldfinch about a week ago. Just found this group. I also just picked up The Reader to get started in February.
Cphe wrote: "The End of the Affair"I just picked that book up a few days ago. I like a lot of Greene's writing, but some of it didn't appeal to me at all. I've got high hopes for The End of the Affair.
