Bryan--The Bee’s Knees (theindefatigablebertmcguinn) | 629 comments Frankenstein: The Original 1818 Text by Mary Shelley. It's incredible that she was only 19 when she started it and just 21 when it was published.

I thought that I had read this years and years ago, but so much of it seems unfamiliar to me that I must have started but never finished it. I like it quite a bit--the edition I have has made me think a lot more about it than I probably would have normally, and I'm very surprised at how deep it actually is.

Meg (thespectacledreader) | 37 comments Started 'The House of Mirth' (Edith Wharton) last night. Lily Bart reminds me strongly of Becky Sharp from 'Vanity Fair'. I think they'd get on like a house on fire!

Started The Ogre (or Le Roi des Aulnes) by by Michel Tournier of France a few days ago. I think the French title means "The Elfking". It was a short-lived list book- in the original edition of Boxall, dropped from the '08 edition.

Jess Penhallow | 37 comments I've finally worked myself up to tackle War and Peace. I read for around 3 hours last night and am still on book 1. This is going to take a while but I'm really enjoying it.

Genia Lukin | 205 comments It's surprisingly easy to read, in my experience, for what it is.

Jess Penhallow | 37 comments Yes I've heard that people can get bogged down by the amount of characters but I'm not finding it too difficult to keep them straight at the moment. Maybe it's because I'm a big Song of Ice and Fire fan!

The only time I've had a problem is when people are being referred to by a different name or title to how they were introduced but I'm coping fine.

If you do find yourself forgetting, the Wikipedia article on the book has a chart of all the characters and their relationship to one another. Just don't read any of the synopsis, or you'll end up reading some spoilers.

The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera. This is my 2nd of his 4 Boxall list books (2 of which have been dropped).
It's a group read for the "Boxall's 1001 Books..." group for December.

Tipping the Velvet by Sara Waters. It's a group read for the "Reading 1001" group. I've read her novel Fingersmith, which I enjoyed.
Also, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte.
So an old one and a newish one.
