Which LIST book did you just start?
Beginning the new year with the journey that is 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I am listening to the audiobook version; which is still incredibly long at 47 discs!
I just started Catcher in the Rye and I feel like I’m a little late to the party because I was somehow never assigned this book in school.

Now I see that you've also read his Pale Fire- That's on my list for this year. Amazing that he wrote 9 books in Russian then at least a dozen more in English, including Lolita. Who does that?

Starting If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Calvino. One of 5 books by him on the complete Boxall list (4 of which are in all editions). It's the Catching Up With Classics group pick for Feb- I was at the library and it was on the shelf, so starting early- the audiobook.

Just started The island of Doctor Moreau. I think I'd better get the next one ready too, because this isn't going to take long!
NeuromancerStill grappling to figure out what's going on, but this is what usually happens when I try to read on the bus! Haha.

Cuban Alejo Carpentier's The Lost Steps (Los Pasos Perdidos). It was added to the list in '08. I quite like it so far. He has another on the original list that was retained, The Kingdom of This World (El Reino de este Mundo).

I loved Eugénie Grandet!

I loved Eugénie Grandet!
I listened to a production of it on BBC Radio with Ian McKellen. It's a very disturbing story in some ways.
The Return of the Soldier by Rebecca West [1918] (Britain). Only 86 pgs, so a novella or novelette. Free for Kindle. It's on the "Feminista" list of best books by women writers in the 20th century.
Cphe wrote: "I thought The Return of the Soldier just excellent.Novella length but a dense read and it did pack an emotional wallop.
Be interested in your thoughts when you finish."
OK, Cphe, based on that ringing endorsement, I'm gonna download it.
