I am a major Harry Potter fan and when I read this book I was genuinely surprised. Were you expecting this book to come as a surprise to many readers?
When can you make a new book that's related to harry potter? Maybe a series about Harry's children?

Casual Vacancy proved that you are as gifted a writer with adult themes as you are with young adult oriented material (although the Harry Potter novels were masterful for any generation). What projects and genres are on your horizon? What interests you?

What was the most difficult change to make when it came to writing The Casual Vacancy as opposed to writing the Harry Potter series?
Absolutely loved this book Jo. It really accurately grabs a small town and exposes it in such a honest way that you can't help but feel for every very real character. My question is this - is the only character flaw that Our Saintly Fairbrother has the fact that he died? This book seems very much about showing that no matter how people may view a person, they're simply that, a person. Not good nor bad. They all have their own reasons for their actions. But it seems Barry Fairbrother is the only one about whom no negative aspect is revealed. Is his character flaw his lack of life?
Why veer so very far from the fantastical genre in this new book? Do you plan to return to that genre?

Writing a completely different genre from your previous work, did you think that this would also be a hit?
While reading this book, there were times I thought decisions were going to be made, and different events would take place. Because of this, the ending caught me so off guard. It was lovely to be surprised, even if it was tragic and once again brought me to tears as you so often have in the past. My question is, how do you keep a linear perspective while writing each character? In other words, did you plan out each character's fate in the beginning, and intertwine them before writing or did that happen as you wrote them?Beautifully done. Once finished, I couldn't stop thinking/talking about it. It really hit home in places, and it was brilliant. Thank you.
You have covered almost everyone from Children to Adults.My question is who will be your next target Audience?
Your descriptions of characters have really inspired me in my own writing. But which character in "The Casual Vacancy" did you feel the strongest connection to?

I so agree! I don't think "realistic" versions of people have to mean they are completely unlikable. This had to have been a conscious choice to create such characters.
Dear J.K Rowling, How do you identify with each caracter in the book?
Since you wrote the Harry Potter series and thats what most people think of when they hear J.K Rowling , do feel that most people wont like this book because its not what you were known best for?
I feel that in America Hollywood and television are glamorizing teen age pregnancy and glossing over the reality of the entire experience, never delving into the consequences that are lying in wait for both the mother and the innocent child. With Krystal, you seem to project teenage pregnancy and its dynamics realistically. What are your thoughts on teenage pregnancy? Babies having babies? From where do you think solutions need to come?
In the Harry Potter series it took 7 books to come to a conclusion. Was it harder to write one book that completed the entire story without the chance of finishing it in a sequel and did you have as much backstory in this as in the HP series?
What made you want to write The Casual Vacancy? How did you come up with the idea of it? Did you have to completely finish Harry Potter before starting on this book or did the idea come to you before finishing Harry Potter?
I haven't read it yet, but my mother did. And she wanted to know: What did you tried to show when you killed a little girl and her brother?

Harry Potter was a fabulous series, more towards the children range. How did you go from writing a children's series to such a serious and true topic? Was it hard or was it easy to go from such a different topic?

The Harry Potter Series has been translated into 74 languages and has sold about 450 million copies. Knowing this, does it pressure you to write more iconic best sellers (such as The Casual Vacancy) and make sure they will sell like the Harry Potter series?

I stuck it out but I have never read such a depressing book. My question is
How depressed were you when you wrote the book. If You weren't?! Why on earth did you choose such vile story lines and disgusting language?

Hi JK,When writing the book did you have the notion in your head that this could help people around the world that the social issues of UK are also global issues?
I think you are brilliant! I am curious if you plotted out the entire book or if these intricate plot lines come naturally to you. I hope you are not afraid to write another youth novel or sequel. I am sure it is fearful to live up to such an epic series like Harry Potter but I hope you realize your followers will love it as long as you keep that amazing voice and description. I am curious what prompted this novel? You must be truly interesting to be able to write about two books on both ends of the spectrum. When is the next book available? Your voice is so strong and you have a magical way of describing things you write about anything and I'd still buy it. I suppose I feel a but smarter after reading even rereading any one of your books. I hope theses words find you. Good luck. Jenna Neal
