Pedro Biz | 7 comments I never stopped to count, but I don't read compulsively. Maybe about 20 books last year. I've been reading papers instead of books, and almost none romance. This year I intend to read 40 books.

message 2: by Mahlon (new)

Mahlon (mahlon32) | 14 comments 110 last year

Alex is The Romance Fox (wwwaromancefoxblogspotcom) | 4 comments I read over 200 last year and my target this year is 300...i know..crazy...but i read and read and read...just can't stop myself. I basically finish 1 book a day.

message 4: by Pedro (new)

Pedro Biz | 7 comments Mahlon "110 last year" wow
Is that a goal that you set in the beginning of the year?

Do you compete with friends about reading books?

message 5: by Texann (new)

Texann | 6 comments I've managed to make it to a little over 300 hundred before but I had a lot more time then. When I worked nights the nights I was off I would make it through two or three on my nights off. Now that I work days definitely slowed down. probably 40-50 some a year now.

Randy Harmelink | 2679 comments Sorry, but I find it to be a meaningless question, when a Kindle "book" can be 3 pages long, or an omnibus that is 1100+ pages.

Lol, don't answer the question then!

Me, my target is 45 this year and I'm pretty much on track.

For those who don't keep track, this is quite handy:

Scott Swager (scottrswager) | 23 comments 42 in six months, average 640 pages. Mostly fiction, some biography and history. Great way to spend time in retirement.

message 9: by Velia (new)

Velia (veliaf) | 24 comments Last year I read just under 100 books. This year I've read far more. I've had an attention problem this year, so I've been reading lots of short stories. Reading is my primary form of entertainment this year, so I set a goal of 100 books. I'm wondering if I should redefine my personal goal to 100 novels.

Yes, I don't think it's how many you read, but more what you read. Between the library and kindle, I;ll never run out. And thanks to Goodreads, I will always no which to chose.

message 11: by Marko (new)

Marko (msusimetsa) | 12 comments Depends on what else has got my attention each year, but it runs between 40 and 60 mostly. The number grows if I get an urge to read some Remo books (only a 100 pages or so each), and it lowers if I use more time to write my own fiction, have work pressure, play and write about games etc. etc.

message 12: by Tish (new)

Tish (paradiseisalibrary) | 30 comments I'm up to 67 books this year. Last year I read 126 last year and 123 the year before. My goal is 125 again.

message 13: by Meinolf (new)

Meinolf (mevo1961) So far, I didn't count the number of books I've read each year. For the first time I'm using the Goodreads reading challenge this year. Initially I've set my goal to 25 books which seemed reasonable to me, but after the first few month I was pretty much ahead of my goal. I now adjusted the goal to 40 books.

message 14: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 3 comments I've been trying for 25 a year.

message 15: by S. (new)

S. Nileson | 29 comments Depends on work. If I am free I can read about 400-500 pages a day. Usually though I end up reading a book or two per week.

message 16: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlb) | 50 comments This is the first year I've ever tracked it, mostly out of curiousity. I decided to do the 50 book challenge http://www.50bookpledge.ca/ this year, as I really suck at updating my Goodreads. Right now I'm at 86 books for this year, but just due to a lot of time spent waiting this year(hospitals etc), I've been reading my butt off. I don't count short stories, but I have been reading some YA this year which is a bit quicker than many other books that I read.

I've also found that I just read more since I got my Kindle- I always tended towards very long hardcover books, and even just manhandling them out of my purse if I had a spare 10 minutes made me sometimes not read. Now I just pull out my kindle, read a page or two in line at the grocery store etc., and that adds up very quickly.

message 17: by Velia (new)

Velia (veliaf) | 24 comments Yeah I noticed I read more since I got my Kindle. I also read everywhere that involves me having to wait....doctor's office, bus ride, restaurant, waiting in line at the store, etc.

I have been more willing to read those incredibly super long books that I wouldn't have before Kindle. This makes me curious about how many pages I read per year.

Same thing, as soon as I got my Kindle I found I was taking it everywhere with me on the off chance I would be able to read even if it was only for a few minutes. I've also been reading the Song of Ice and Fire series which are all huge books but not for me with my Kindle. Last year I read over 150 books (I'm retired so I have time now) but I don't think I'll manage that this year.

message 19: by Anika (new)

Anika (teddybear1) | 84 comments I read over a 100 books per year and I take my kindle with me mostly everywhere so if there is a moment I can take it out to read. It's amazing how time goes by fast when I do.

message 20: by brokenssarrow (new)

brokenssarrow | 1 comments It obviously depends. Because I'm really busy, I usually read like between 10 and 30 books per year.

message 21: by S. (new)

S. Nileson | 29 comments Started reading thoroughly this year. So far I read about 20 new books during six months. So assuming the rate remains constant, I should be reading 40 books a year.

message 22: by Joe (new)

Joe Pfeiler | 7 comments Six was my maximum, back in 2006. My reading time is limited to before and after work hours so six was definitely an accomplishment, for me.

message 23: by Ann (new)

Ann | 83 comments As many as I can find time to read!!

message 24: by Mark (new)

Mark Chisnell (markchisnell) | 17 comments I wish I could do two hundred, but it's more like 30...

message 25: by LaSonya (new)

LaSonya | 2 comments I'd say I average around 50 books a year give or take.

message 26: by Bob (new)

Bob | 3 comments I average about 250 books per year.

message 27: by Lory (new)

Lory Sakay More each year... I'm at about 40

✿ ♥ Heather ♥ ✿ (frangiegal) | 4 comments Since I've been keeping track, 37 in 2011 (prior to getting into ebooks), 70 last year (majority ebooks and did include some novellas).

This year and going forward ill set my goal as 52 - one per week. Easily achievable and not pushing myself that I miss out on good TV shows or movies.

why can't you read in same room as him?...i read while my husband is playing video games on the computer/ if he is watching a movie I don't like or if he is doing anything I read while in the same room and stop occasionally and ask about whatever project he is working on (unless it's a project we are doing together)my mother in law and father in law spend time reading in the same room as well...

message 30: by Texann (new)

Texann | 6 comments i noticed I was reading a lot more when i got my kindle but I've broken three kindles and now I have a tablet but I don't seem to use it as much. I'm hoping to get through more books the rest of this year and next year, because me and a friend have been recently driving once every other month to Dallas where they have a half price books store...and I've been buying up books series that I had never finished or wanted to read cheaper than what i would spend on the kindle and these books I'm allowed to read at my desk at work (we aren't supposed to have tablets, kindles, phones ect).

message 31: by Brenda (new)

Brenda I read 191 last year and 133 in 2011. I set my total for 160 for this year, and am currently reading #160! So I guess it'll be around 200 for this year:)

message 32: by Bj (new)

Bj Hunter (bjhunter) | 41 comments I am trying for 25 this year but since I have been working more it is very hard since housework takes up most of my free time. I am hoping when school starts and work hours slow I can put more time in. Right now I am reading Joe Hill's NOS4A2 which is very long and will take me a while to finish.

message 33: by Linzi (new)

Linzi | 3 comments About 275 (based on the averages of my goodreads challenges for the last 3 years)

message 34: by Lila (new)

Lila (FloraLila) | 3 comments I used to be a voracious reader. Now, I just have more responsibilities and additional hobbies. I don't read nearly as much as I once did. I'll probably read more books than I log here but it won't be as many as I would like.

message 35: by Benjamin (last edited Jul 31, 2013 02:10PM) (new)

Benjamin (ben21) I average around 60 (almost all the books I read are 350+ pages, I hate short books).

Agnes (BookBubbe) (bookbubbe) Wish I had the time to read....but other things keep getting in the way....I challenge myself to read 50 books and try to pass that but glad I even do that...I read more in the summer because I don't work in the summer and have more time...but my book is always with me and I don't mind waiting in doctor's offices...gives me time to read.

Me too..hubby likes his tv; I have a book in hand...

message 38: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) I have no idea how many I read last year. I am trrying for 260 this year.

message 39: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Tabler | 5 comments I read about 320 books a year mabey more. I read about 4-5 a week, but sometimes 5-6 a week just depends.

message 40: by Todd (new)

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 11 comments My reading goal has been one book a week for as long as I can remember (have been reading 30+ years). I'm not talking short stories, articles, magazines, comic books, etc, unless the book is a collection of them. I enjoy a collection every now and then.

Some years I've managed to read 150+ books, some only a handful. I believe there might have been a year that I didn't finish reading a single book all year long (break out the torture devices!)

As of this post in 2013, I've read 42 novels, so I'm outpacing.

message 41: by Larissa (new)

Larissa Campos (larilari) | 1 comments It's hard to keep track because I actually re-read almost half as much as the number of new titles I read per year (I re-read between study sessions, to relax in general and to deepen study as well, unfortunately), which are the ones gr registers so I'd say 150 new titles, 70 re-reads.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Hm, it varies very much from year to year... I'd say close to a 100 books :)

message 43: by Kay (new)

Kay | 5 comments I would usually say about 100 books but I am currently unemployed so I am reading about one every other day currently. It keeps me sane between filling out job applications!

message 44: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) | 6 comments I challenged myself to read a book a day this year. At first it was a real struggle, but right now I am ahead of schedule. I have read 262 books so far this year.

That would be hard to say. I have discovered so many new authors. I just finished a really good one by Sophie Littlefield - A Bad Day for Romance. It was really good. The American Heiress by Dorothy Eden was also a favorite. The Perfect Ghost by Linda Barnes was another really good one.

Good for you - that is a great goal - what are you reading now? I read more but am looking for work at the moment so have MUCH extra time on my hands - lol!!!

message 50: by A. (new)

A. Micheaux (noliacrown) I would read more if it wasn't for working so much, but it has to be between 200-300.
