Heather (heatherlin) I am pretty sure thats what its called. I have just recently discovered it and it definitely seems like something I would love to do (its something I did when I was much younger, but didn't know it was called anything)
I was wondering if anyone here does it already?
if so what can you tell me about it? or can you direct me somewhere useful (a website or book of some kind)?
do I use a journal or a notebook to do it, or what? what kind of glue/paste do I use? etc.

thanks much.

Kate Squires (fangrrl) i do, i'm actually featured in a recent book about it. check out the complete idiot's guide to altered art, it's great. i tend to buy my books to use from goodwill or salvation army. i recently used a hymnal that my church was discarding. the music makes for a beautiful background. you can use notebooks if you like, i recommend something sturdy with a heavier weight paper than your typical spiral bound. as for glue, glue stick (i stock up in the fall when elmers glue sticks are $.50) is an altered artist's best friend. author donna downey always recommends using your "ass-ets" to help the glue to work (i.e. sitting on stuff to activate glue better and to press when needed). obviously, this doesn't work for everything. if altered books interest you, you'd probably be into artist trading cards as well. here are a few links to get you started:
(author of complete idiots guide to scrapbook projects and to altered art)
(kristina contes does some amazing work)
(cloth paper scissors magazine is a great source for new ideas and techniques)

also you can check out my "in-my-art-studio" book list if you like.

i hope this is helpful!!!

Tammy Powley | 1 comments Check out the work of Tom Phillips (google him...technically considered the first to create an altered book) and there's also a wonderful book called The Decorated Page you might like as well.
