Terry (tbosky) | 58 comments I'm a librarian and part of my job is dealing with books people want added to our collection. Right now I'm dealing with one called "A Scream of Horror" by Nuella Mara Turin and it's about her late husband who was... um... voodooed to death. It's a true story and having met her, she believes every word of it, but it's full of witches and zombies and it reads like some alternate reality Florida.

Anyway, I thought this was interesting enough to share. She gives out her e-mail address (nuellamaraturin@aol.com and nuellab@aol.com) in the book, if people are interested in copies.

Like I said, it's about losing her husband, so if you do e-mail her be nice.

Terry (tbosky) | 58 comments There's no price anywhere, so there's a chance the book is free. It's printed through some affiliation with her husband's former ministry, so it might be a charity thing (or tax write-off). Based on its availability in French, English, and Spanish, I'm guessing it's more of a "getting people to read it thing" than a "making money" thing.

Is it good? Um... it's really surreal. It's set a little south of where I live, but I'm familiar with the area so it's odd to read about a beach I know, where strange figures are burying her husband's clothes or a stretch of I95 I've been on 100s of times, where she and her husband are driving with a zombie passenger who grazes her husband's neck with a hand that looks like a hairy hoof.

Fredstrong | 36 comments Serpant and teh Rainbow is also a Voodoo, true zombie tale, definitely worth a read. Don't judge it on the horrible movie. The book is a true story by a Harvard ethnobotonist.

Bryce Wilson | 2 comments Please the most horrifying thing in that movie was Pullman getting that gigantic nail through the scrotum.

I couldn't uncross my legs for hours after that one.

Probably is Craven's best tho.

Fredstrong | 36 comments Don't let it prejudice you toward the book.

I contacted Nuella Mara Turin about the book, and gave her my condolences for her loss. She sent me an email requesting my address and is sending me a copy of, A Scream of Horror, for free.

J-Lynn Van Pelt | 15 comments You all have me intrigued. I just emailed Ms. Turin and hope to get the book soon. But, it will probably have to wait until spring break to get read.

Like Randy, I would be interested to hear your early impressions.

Christen | 41 comments I also requested the book - I'm looking forward to it. I'll let you all know my impressions if Ms. Turin deems me worthy to receive a copy. :)

message 12: by J-Lynn Van Pelt (new)

J-Lynn Van Pelt | 15 comments Wow! That was quick. Ms. Turin emailed me back and seemed genuinely happy to send a copy.

I told her that I heard about the book in a discussion on Goodreads and she seemed very enthused that it was being discussed--so, way to go Terry.

I am excited to read it.

NuellaMara | 3 comments topic: True Tale from the Dark Side... Scream of Horror!

This is just another version of "The Serpent and The Rainbow" a book and film of Wade Davis, Havard University famous Antropologist and Scientist. Yet this time, the gruesome nightmare happened right here in prestigious Boca Raton, Florida.

So-thought Minister/Theologian burying victim's clothes in front of the ocean, x-rated withcraft, chilling exorcism.

Ghost accompanying victim awaiting his wife at the Fort-Lauderdale International Airport.
Sadistic witch, faithful church goer, dancing and screaming: Hell! Marcel is dead! 3 days prior to his actual death. She was very much in a hurry.

This book is forbidden by all church Pharisees, yet very well embraced by prayer warriors!

Vodoo! Zombies! Horror! CHURCH SCANDAL! True story! A must read!
