Disney Princes

LEVELS
Easy 1 - 3 books
Moderate 4 - 8
Difficult 9+ books
Time Limit: None! (Take as long as you want. ☺)

♚"The Prince": Snow White's love interest in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Any hero that approaches, lures, or kisses the heroine on a balcony. Since he is just known as "The Prince," but Harry Stockwell did the singing voice, any book where the protagonist is name "Harry" will also count.
Lover Revealed (Although the balcony kiss occurs in one of the previous books, this book focuses on the character who did it)
♚"Prince Charming": The love interest of Cinderella from Cinderella. Read a book where the hero is a duke searching for the "right girl"- for whatever reason - to be his bride. Here's another dude whose name we don't know! However, the original voice was done by William Phipps, and the original singing voice by Mike Douglas, so we'll take any hero named William or Mike.

description
♚Prince Phillip: Princess Aurora's love interest from Sleeping Beauty. Look for a hero betrothed to the heroine at an early age, or before he has even met her. Or read a book where the hero is named Phillip.

description
♚Prince Eric: The human who captured the heart of Princess Ariel in The Little Mermaid. Read a book where the hero is a sea captain, or is saved by the heroine, or is named Eric, or Christopher, since the original voice was done by Christopher Daniel Barnes.

description Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward
Prince Adam, also known as "The Beast": Belle's (eventual!) love interest and the hero of Beauty and the Beast. Read a book where the hero is a shape-shifter, scarred, or a redhead. Or arrogant, self-centered, and spoiled at the start of the book. Or named Adam, or Robby, since the original voice was done by Robby Benson.

description
♚Aladdin: He is the main character of Aladdin. He falls in love with Princess Jasmine, and they are married, thus making him a prince by marriage. Read a book where the hero is - or once was - a street rat, orphan, thief, or comes from the "wrong side of the tracks". Or is named Aladdin, Scott, or Brad (Original Voice: Scott Weinger) (Original Singing Voice: Brad Kane).

description
♚Captain John Smith: He's Pocahontas's love-interest from Pocahontas. Find a book where the hero is a captain, or exploring a new world. He is one of our few blonde heroes, so you can look for one of those, too. Of course, a hero with the name of John counts, and Mel Gibson did the original voice (singing too!), so Mel counts.

description
♚Captain Li Shang: He is Mulan's love-interest from Mulan. He's is a Chinese army captain, so any of those characteristics will count, but so will any hero that is too "by-the-book," putting his duty above his feelings at the beginning. A hero named Li, or with the initials B.D, or named Donnie will also count. (Original Voice: B.D. Wong. Original Singing Voice: Donnie Osmond!)
Madly (Madly, #1) by M. Leighton

description
♚Prince Naveen: The hero from The Princess and the Frog", and eventual love interest of Tiana. Find a hero that is a playboy at the beginning of the book, or who is visiting New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I'll also allow it if he lives in a swamp. He can be named Naveen or Bruno (Original Voice and Singing: Bruno Campos).
Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward

description
♚Eugene Fitzherbert , better known as "Flynn Rider": He is a famous thief, known for his charm and good looks in the movie Tangled. Read a book where the hero is knocked unconscious by the heroine. Or one where the hero is hired by the heroine to escort or show her the way some where (as in a "road trip" story). Or where the hero is named Eugene, Flynn, or Zachary (Original Voice and Singing: Zachary Levi). The Wide-Awake Princess (Wide-Awake Princess, #1) by E.D. Baker

Kat (riceballkat) | 67 comments My Hero Challenge

Bad Boy Hero:
The Bad Boy hero is in a league of his own. More heroines and readers/viewers have fallen for the Bad Boy than any other hero. He is the ultimate rebel: mysterious, seemingly indifferent, and hard to get. He starts off behaving badly and unrepentant. His inner good is revealed however by the end of the novel due to actions of the heroine or circumstances that force the Bad Boy to become the knight in shining armor.
A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2) by Sarah J. Maas
Alpha Hero:
Oh the Alpha Hero… how we love to hate and adore him. The innate leader in any situation, all look up to him and want to be him. He’s cool, confident, steady, strong, and sure. His ultimate role, I’ve noticed, is to take care of the heroine.

Brooding Hero:
Our poor tortured lonely Brooding Hero, how we love to torment him! Aloof, angry, wounded, and ultimately one of the most vulnerable heroes out there, the Brooding Hero has captured the most hearts in very recent history with Angel and Edward Cullen. (The Brooding Hero is a perfect foil for the Paranormal Hero.)
Her Mad Hatter (Kingdom, #1) by Marie Hall
Rogue Hero:
The Rogue, who by any other time period outside of Regency, is a promiscuous cad in need of a physical. Utterly charming, completely dashing, and carelessly carefree about life and love, the Rogue is ready to live life to the fullest. Commitment is not a word in his vocabulary until the heroine sweeps into his sphere of influence.
Gerard's Beauty (Kingdom, #2) by Marie Hall
Nerd Hero:
Another name for the Nerd Hero is the Beta Hero. He’s kind, sweet, and decent. He’s the best friend or the slightly awkward gentleman. The Nerd Hero almost always meets his full potential because of the heroine. He rises to the occasion… in more ways than one!

Tycoon Hero:
This hero type literally litters Harlequin presents. He can be a millionaire, billionaire, prince, sheik, or wealthy boss. Ninety percent of the time the Tycoon starts out isolated and jaded in the novel only to wind up happy and easygoing by the end.

Protector Hero:
The Protector Hero comes in many disguises and professions, most are obvious, but some not so much. You can find him playing the role of a cop, firefighter, spy, detective, bodyguard, part of the military, etc. The plot behind many Protector Hero stories involves a mystery where he almost loses the heroine while trying to save her.

Daredevil Hero:
Pirates and superheroes compose the majority of the Daredevil Heroes. They love action, they love fights, and they love thrills. Give them a damsel in distress and they’re all over that like white on rice.

Warrior Hero:
The Warrior Hero, funnily enough is a very reluctant hero. He thinks himself above it all. His mission in life is to fight and protect his home, his country, and his men. Then a woman gets thrown into the mix all kinds of chaos and havoc ensure and he fights it every step of the way only to get conquered by the heroine.
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

Paranormal Hero:
Oh yes, the Paranormal Hero, when a normal man just won’t cut it the Paranormal Hero steps in prepared to win hearts and steal our very souls. He oozes sex with his otherworldly good looks and quickens our imagination with images of the extraordinary. Call him a vampire, a wizard, a lycanthrope, or any other kind of superhuman being it’s all the same to him.

Olympian- 8 books
Titan- 12 books

Start: Dec 30, 2012- Dec 30, 2013

Olympian Gods
descriptiondescriptiondescription
[image error]descriptiondescription

◈Zeus is the father of gods and men. Read a book about a president, monarch, ruler, or someone in a leadership position. This includes, but is not limited to: kings, princes, presidents, sheikhs, or prime minsters.

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

◈Poseidon is the god of the sea. Read a book about a man who lives in close proximity to a large body of water or has a job as a fisherman, marine-biologist, or sailor. You can also read a book with a body of water on the cover. Poseidon also has a lot of children so you can read a book about a man with more than 3 children.

◈Apollo is the god of music, poetry, prophecy, light, plague, healing and the sun. Read a book about an artist or a doctor. You can read a book with a cover that appeals to you aesthetically (in layman's terms: read a book that you think has a beautiful cover).

◈Ares is the god of war. Read a book about a man that is or was in the military or a warrior. This includes, but is not limited to: a Marine, someone in the army, navy, or air force, a knight, viking, ninja, gladiator, mercenary, etc...

◈Hephaestus is the god of fire and smiths. As a symbolism for fire, read a book with a predominantly red cover.

◈Hermes is the herald of the gods. Read a book about a man who has a sense of spirituality. Or read a book with a mythical being such as an angel (think paranormal).

Olympian Goddesses
descriptiondescriptiondescription
description[image error]description

◈Hera is the queen of the gods and the goddess of marriage and family. Read a book about a woman who is married or has children. You can also read a book about a female president, monarch, ruler, or someone in a leadership position. This includes, but is not limited to: queens, princesses, or prime minsters.
Exiled (Immortal Essence, #1) by RaShelle Workman Beguiled (Immortal Essence, #2) by RaShelle Workman Dovetailed (Immortal Essence, #3) by RaShelle Workman
Madly (Madly, #1) by M. Leighton Madly & Wolfhardt (Madly, #2) by M. Leighton Madly & the Jackal (Madly, #3) by M. Leighton
◈Demeter is the goddess of fertility, grain, and agriculture. Read a book where the protagonist is pregnant, is trying to get pregnant, or is someone who owns a farm, raises vegetables/flowers.

◈Athena is the goddess of wisdom and crafts, war and strategy, and inventions in science. Read a book about a woman who can --for lack of better words-- kick some serious ass.

◈Hestia is the virgin goddess. Read a book with a youthful character (think YA) or a virgin.
Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #4) by J.R. Ward
◈Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, childbirth, healing and plague. Read a book with foliage or animals on the cover. Or read a book about a woman who loves nature.

◈Aphrodite is the goddess of love, sexuality, and beauty. Read a book about someone who is extremely beautiful, or in tune with her sexuality (think erotica)

Kat (riceballkat) | 67 comments A Sign of the Times

Starting: June 6, 2013

May 21 to June 21 - Gemini
June 22 to July 22 - Cancer
July 23 to August 22 - Leo
August 23 to September 22 - Virgo
September 23 to October 23 - Libra
October 24 to November 21 - Scorpio
November 22 to December 22 - Sagittarius
December 23 to January 22 - Capricorn
January 20 to February 19 - Aquarius
February 20 to March 20 - Pisces
March 20 to April 20 - Aries
April 21 to May 20 - Taurus

How do I play?
You read the letters of the sign associated with the time frame you're currently in. The letter must correspond to the first letter of a title, the first letter of an author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first or last name from the book. Just let us know what the link to the letter is if it's not obvious. You may ignore the 'A', 'An', 'The', etc. at the beginning of titles to get to the first significant word. So "The Virgin's Secret" would be a 'V' title and "A Highlander Christmas" would be an 'H' title. (Thanks for the example BJ Rose) Once you get through all the signs you may start over again and read different books or re-read books you've read before. As long as you read. Since our current date falls with the time period of July 23 to August 22 (The sign of Leo) We will read Leo by spelling it out.

Kat (riceballkat) | 67 comments February Monthly Challenge
For this challenge you can pick from the following 3 options or mix and match them. The choice is up to you.

Option 1 - You may choose to do a spell it out challenge from the words listed below or one you come up with that is related to Love.

As always you may use the title, name of characters, or the name of an author to link it to the letters. You may ignore the 'A', 'An', 'The', etc. at the beginning of titles to get to the first significant word. So "The Virgin's Secret" would be a 'V' title and "A Highlander Christmas" would be an 'H' title." You pick which word/phrase you want or come up with one we haven't.

Option 2 - You may decide to read a certain number of romances. I've been reading some novellas lately, so to compensate, I'm aiming to do 10

Option 3 - You may read books with a word listed below in the title.

Levels:
Easy - 3 to 4 books.

Hug

Hot
Kiss

Moderate - 5 - 7 books.

Kat (riceballkat) | 67 comments Hunger Games Challenge: Escape the Capitol
Thanks to RebeccaS for the challenge.

Imagine you are living in the country of Panem and are a citizen of the Capitol. Despite the wonderful fashion and colorful hair, you are growing tired of living under the tyranny of President Snow.

In order to escape President Snow, you must travel through all 12 districts to reach the safety of District 13. But hurry, you want to be there before you miss the rebellion.
