Anyone here? I finished this Sunday night. There's a tiny piece of info I was expecting to find, based upon how well he wrapped up his characters in his other books. I didn't find it and I'm guessing I probably just missed it.
I finished this on Friday. For me, it was a four star read. It was entertaining and the characters were engrossing but it lacked the large emotional wollop that Horns had. I also felt that the pacing slowed down a lot in the middle. This book may have benefitted from a bit more editing. Overall, I liked it, didn't love it.
It was four stars for me as well. I definitely really liked it but I agree it was not as emotionally engaging as Horns was. Nor was it as genuinely terrifying as Heart-Shaped Box.The part that I feel like I missed was whether there was anything ever explicit about what Bing did to his mother? I'm not sure I want to know really, but there were allusions to it so I was expecting it to be detailed at some point. Beyond the fact that he killed her I don't think the details are important to know for the story, but I am mostly just wondering if I missed it somehow, or if he just left all that as vague references.
No, it was just vague references - though I assumed that it was a less docile version of the treatment the mommies got. =\
Yeah, that's what I took away too. That's good, I'm glad I didn't miss it. Then I'd have to wonder what else I might have missed.
How does Lou get back from Christmasland? He was handcuffed to the tree when Vic and Wayne crossed back on the Triumph. Did I miss something?
As far as I understood it, Lou never got to Christmasland. Vic handcuffed him to the tree to keep him from following her.
I loved this book. The visuals that he painted in my mind were pretty extreme. I could just imagine the sharp little teeth and the games the creepy children played in Christmasland....scissors for the drifter, yikes! Love the good vs. evil theme and so glad in the end Vic's son didn't turn out evil, but evil was still lurking out there.
I still love Horns and Heart Shaped Box though. Those two books pulled me in even more although I liked this book too. It did get a little long in the middle.
I read this book again a couple of weeks ago and loved it even more the second time around. I caught a bunch of things that slipped past me on the first read.
Finished this novel and what a novel it is!! I really think this will make a great film. Joe has gotten better with each novel. Progression is snowballing for him.
Re-reading books is a great pleasure! I do it as often as I can. A many layered book will have quite a bit buried, will be difficult to pick up on ~everything, first time through ;)I can't find my copy, so have ordered this one again. Another 50 cents for the author ;)
I enjoy reading all your posts!
I finished this book yesterday and loved it. I was devastated by Maggie's death. Am I the only one that really shipped Vic and Maggie as much as I loved Lou I just thought Maggie should get some love. My favorite bits of the book where the early chapters showing Vic's childhood and teen years. I thought the relationship with her dad was skillfully written and he really made you feel Vic's confections about him. One one side he was a ass who hit his wife and ran off but on the other him and Vic had a lovely relationship together when he was there.
I just finished NOS4A2 last night as well. It was an easy 5 star rating for me. I like Maggie from the very beginning and just had a bad feeling she wouldn't survive this story. Although I liked her little personal victory when she saw Triumph in the scrabble pieces. I thought Horns was a little better. Maybe because for me it was a more emotional story and I really connected to Ig more than Vic although Vic was a fantastic character too! I also liked that it was a bit more grounded in reality. Like everything in Horns was a normal world with the exception of Ig's slow transformation. I liked that. Made the horns stuff all the stranger. But I gotta hand props to Hill for all the Multiverse stuff. Anything with Dark Tower references is an easy win with me lol.
http://www.deusexmachinatio.com/blog/...... Because it annoyed me to no end to not be in on this "joke" when it presented itself. May be considered a *s-s-spoiler*

They're adapting this to the screen. https://deadline.com/2018/09/nos4a2-z...I can buy Zachary Quinto as Manx because he has such an odd look already. Manx is young and old in the novel (at least appearance wise), so it will obviously be easier to age someone.
Ashleigh Cummings, however, looks nothing like my Vic. I'm always happy to be surprised, though. We'll see.
Hmm, she might work. I guess a lot depends on the writing and her acting.I'm not too worried about Quinto. As crazy as he was in Heroes, I'd like to see what he can do with Manx.

He also played crazy incredibly well in American Horror Story. I think he'll be great.
I think I am most anxious to see who they cast as Maggie. I had such tender feelings for her as I read.
I saw a new trailer today. Vicky doesn't look the way I imagined her, but I'm still really looking forward to this series.
I'll be at WonderCon next weekend and will get to see the first episode of this show and then a Q&A with Hill and the cast. I cannot wait! I so badly want it to be good.

I cant say im excited for the show, because I don't think it will adapt well to film, but it's great exposure for Joe and ill be watching it anyway....
I saw the first episode on Saturday and it looks very good. The changes they made make sense and the actors cast were terrific!
